New from Iliad Design comes a set of 1:48 decals for a quintet of very attractive Lockheed T-33s. Rowan takes a look.

While the T-33 obviously looks great in a natural metal finish, it's also a real head-turner sporting camouflage. Bob Migliardi's new Iliad Design decals demonstrate this perfectly with an excellent mix of Shooting Stars and Silver Stars painted in a variety of camouflage styles and including some eye-catching markings.

As always with Iliad Design the decals are superb quality - thin and glossy, with precise registration and minimal excess carrier film. The colours look excellent, with a clear contrast between the deep Insignia Blue used in USAF national markings and the brighter Canadian roundels.

The set includes markings for the following aircraft:

1. T-33A, 57th FIS, USAF, Keflavik, Iceland, 1975

2. T-33A, 2 Sqn. Pakistani Air Force

3. CT-133, No.2 Fighter Wing, RCAF, Grostenquin, France, 1961

4. T-33, AG 51 (Immelman), Luftwaffe, 1968

5. CT-133, 1 CAG, RCAF, Baden Soellingen, Germany, 1990

Backing up the decals are full-colour instructions, with right and left profiles, plus top-side plan views that have the underwing markings "ghosted" on. There's also a page of useful reference photos highlighting some of the differences in the aircraft operated by different nations. Original colour matches are given for each scheme.

Conclusion

This is an excellent addition to the Iliad Design range. The sheet is very reasonably priced and all the featured colour schemes are inspiring. A line-up of all five finished models would look superb, and if that might be a tad ambitious for an individual modeller if space is at a premium, this set would also make a great basis for a club/group build.

Many thanks to Iliad Design for the review sample.
