Kevin Brant takes a look at Exito Decals latest 1:48 scale release 'Pacific Warriors' Vol. 1

Introduction

During World War 2 not only did the United States Navy take to the skies over the Pacific, but the United States Army Air Force took part as well, flying some of the well known aircraft like the P-38, P-40,and P-51.  A new set of decals in 1/48 scale from Exito Decals now covers some of these aircraft.

Review

Packaged in a clear plastic envelope with thick card stock this new set of decals from Exito Decals covers aircraft flown in the Pacific during World War 2.  The front cover sheet shows the three aircraft in full color with summary of the aircraft flight details.

And with all Exito Decals the reference cards are like a piece of art, with one side showing the side profile of the aircraft in full color and well detailed.  On the backside, the painting and marking schemes are laid out for the decals, including some actual reference images and details. Paint references are included for both AK Interactive and Mr. Hobby

The decals themselves are also a piece of art, very well printed by Cartograph.  All color are well represented and all in register. It should be noted that the decal sheets don’t have the additional stencil data that may appear on the aircraft, so that will need to be sourced from the kit decals or elsewhere.

Marking

  • P-51D-25-NA, s/n 44-72640, coded ‘501’ flown by Capt. Evelyn Neff, 457th FS / 506th FG, Iwo Jima, late Spring/Summer 1945
  • P-40N, coded ‘47’ flown by Lt. David R. Winternitz, 8th FS / 49th FG, New Guinea after February 1944
  • P-39L-5-LO, s/n 44-26490, coded ‘E’ flown by Lt. E.T. Johnson, 36th FS / 8th FG, Ryukyu Islands late Summer 1945116

Conclusion

This is another excellent looking set of decals from Exito Decals, very well printed and presented with great looking reference cards for the painting and marking schemes. As with all sets from Exito Decals you can see the research done as provided on the reference cards which will allow you to mark up and decently accurate version of the aircraft.  I would definitely recommend this set and any set of Decals from Exito Decals.
