The first of many Black Hawks from ICM in 1/48th scale are hitting the market with this one being a MH-60L Black Hawk US Special Forces Helicopter.

Review

ICM has released the first of the Black Hawk helicopters in 1/48th scale and it resulted in one downside, one surprise and a mostly positive opinion of the offering. Let’s get the low point out of the way and you will not be surprised to hear that no parts or effort has been put into the crew harnesses; this is I believe my biggest critique of ICM as their model offerings generally only really need that added. So with that out of the way lets progress.

My surprise in this model is that the parts count seems small for such a promising model and its size; not a negative just an observation. Interior detail is fair in all regards with decals provided to replicate instruments. Controls seem fair in detail, but as always there is room for the after market item to further detail and address missing details. The seating seems far beyond the missing harness detail. I am by no means an expert on the various Black Hawks and so I can only judge by online images so forgive me if I have missed something obvious.

Looking over the exterior and the hull parts are a little unusual in that there are two fuselage sides and a large separate floor. This approach I am sure is due to different versions in the offing but it does mean if warping occurs anywhere in these parts you will have a hard time. Panel detail on these parts is also excellent and another reason why any major need for filler will be a royal pain. I appreciate the inclusion of a mask template as it saves money and makes painting easier. I also like that three finishing options have been included.

ICM has also released a six colour paint set for this release and provides the colours below:

1002 – Black

1033 – Sky grey

1038 – German Grey

1056 – Light Earth

1072 – US Dark green

2003 – Gloss Varnish
