New from Eduard comes a finely detailed set of Brassin wheels for GasPatch's 1:48 Messerschmitt Me 163B.

The set arrives in a simple resealable bag and comes complete with die-cut washi-tape painting masks.

The casting is flawless in the sample and the wheels feature beautifully detailed hubs that are a definite improvement over the kit versions, particularly on the inner faces.

Where the Brassin wheels differ completely from GasPatch's is the tyres; the resin wheels feature treads, whereas the plastic ones are the smooth type with raised beading.

Checking period photos of the Me 163B, it does seem like both types were used - but I found more examples of the plain tyres. So that may limit how useful this set is, depending on whether you're modelling a specific Komet from a photo (of course, there's always the chance that there was a supply of undercarriage dollies with both types of tyres, and groundcrew simply interchanged them as they became available).

Perhaps Eduard will also release a set of that type, but it would have been neat if both styles had been included here.

In terms of preparation, these will be a cinch, with small casting points that form a slight "flat" to give a weighted look. The wheels are direct replacements for the kit parts, so no surgery is required. The inclusion of painting masks is a neat touch.

Eduard provide a sheet of clearly illustrated instructions, but you can virtually guarantee most modellers will hardly glance at them, the set is so straightforward to use. Colour matches for Gunze Sangyo paints are included.

Conclusion

I'd have liked to see both plain and treaded tyres included, but this is a beautifully designed and cast set of wheels. While nominally designed for Gaspatch's new-tool Komet, you could obviously use them with earlier models too, such as the Trimaster/Dragon kits.

Many thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
