ICM has downsized their Ch-54A Tarhe and released a Ch-54A Tarhe with M-121 Bomb in 1/72nd scale.

Ch-54A Tarhe with M-121 Bomb

The CH-54 was built in limited numbers, and I believe first served in Vietnam. This huge monster of a helicopter was first released by ICM in 1/35th scale, which meant that size was an issue in regards to how someone could keep a finished offering. ICM has now released a 1/72nd offering which makes them far more appealing due to the much smaller size. I believe that ICM has basically down scaled their 1/35th scale kits. However, looking at the model I believe this may not be the case.

What I will say is that the crew cab is very nicely detailed and I like the fact that the decals have been provided for the control panels. Careful clean up and positioning will be required in some areas as due to the extreme size of the helicopter interlocking frames form an internal support structure for the long thin fuselage once past the crew compartment. The leg struts also have some added structure built in, but I would still be very careful as I suspect that these would break relatively easily.

The rotor head structure and gearbox along with the intakes are extremely well detailed for this scale and will I believe test your own abilities. In front of the intakes are finer filters which I believe are for specific areas of operation. The surface detail is as pleasing as it was on the 1/35th scale offerings. Provided with this release, are 3D printed parts to represent the bomb.

This bomb I believe may be better known as a Daisy cutter and was used to create large landing sites for fire bases due to the effect the bomb had on the ground. Being 3D printed you will have a considerable amount of clean up to do, but if that does not bother you then this could be the kit for you, and it will be a very pleasing model to view.
