Here's a look at Eduard's Brassin alternative for the seat in their new-tool Sopwith Camel.

Eduard's new Camel is a beautifully produced kit, and it goes the extra mile in providing a choice of pilot's seats - one moulded in styrene and the other combining etched and plastic parts for extra delicacy. But both approaches are totally eclipsed by the simply superb 3D-printed seat which is now available in Eduard's Brassin of upgrades.

The new set arrives well protected in a stout little flip-top box (note: early examples were packed in a resealable bag and prone to damage in transit) and comprises the seat itself and a pair of pre-coloured photoetched lap belts.

The seat almost beggars belief with its delicacy - nothing moulded in plastic can hope to approach it, and it also has a far more convincing woven look than etched parts. The other advantage is its simplicity to use; it's joined to its base by a number of very thin supports which will only take a moment or two to clean off. With that done, it's ready to paint.

Despite the seat's appearance of fragility, it's actually pretty robust. The material used seems similar to toughened resin in hardness, so the part should be perfectly capable of withstanding normal handling.

The etched seatbelts appear to be the same as those included with the ProfiPACK Camel and should look good once they've been carefully curled to fit.

The set comes complete with a neatly produced set of instructions, and no surgery is required to fit it, so it's an ideal upgrade for anyone trying something like this for the first time.

Conclusion

Conclusion

It's not often that I'm "blown away" anymore by new releases, but I've never seen anything quite like this seat. It's simply stunning - and undoubtedly just a sign of what we can look forward to as the use of 3D-printing technology increases in the scale modelling market.

Many thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
