Tim Hatton takes a peek at MMP’s Single No 23 focusing on the NAA P-51B-1-NA the first production batch for the USAAF of the Mustang ‘B’,

The single series of aircraft monographs by MMP, provides modellers and historians with an inexpensive reference for a number of aircraft mainly from WWII. Although there are not many pages, they are packed with the kind of detail that can take some time to reference on the internet. It’s always handy to have a source of reference sitting on the shelf. Single 23 focuses on the P-51B-1-NA operated by the USAAF. The soft back A4 format twenty-four-page book contains scale plans in both 1:72 and 1:48 scales. These are supported with many black and white photos and an excellent series of colour profiles of 43-12478, AJ*Q ‘Sonava Bugger’ of the 355th Fighter Squadron,354th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force. Four of the pages concentrate on the cockpit. The majority of the cutaway drawings are sourced from Airplane Spare Parts and Maintenance Manuals. The quality of the monochrome images is very good. It’s worthwhile just studying actual images of the aircraft so that you can better detail your build. For example, it’s interesting to see how obvious the fasteners are for the various maintenance panels on the fuselage. Another is the size of the necks for refuelling the drop tanks.

An impressive reference source from MMP. There may be only twenty-four pages, but its impressively packed with detail. It’s a great source of reference to have handy that doesn’t cost the earth. Nice one MMP.  Highly recommended.
