The Republic P-47M Thunderbolt was the ultimate, high-speed production variant of the famed WWII American fighter, specifically developed to counter German jet aircraft and V-1 flying bombs. Featuring an uprated 2,800 hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800-57C engine, it reached maximum speeds of 470--480 mph at 28,500 ft. Developed primarily to combat the Messerschmitt Me 262 and Me 163, the "M" variant achieved its blistering performance through its powerful engine and CH-5 supercharger. It was famously operated by the USAAF's 56th Fighter Group (Hubert Zemke's legendary "Wolfpack"). The aircraft was also equipped with dive brakes to safely manage its increased speed during high-velocity intercepts.

This release from  MiniArt of a P-47M Thunderbolt is a basic kit offering meaning that the photo etch aspect of the model has been done away with. This does mean that those modellers who do not like using photo etch have a model that will not tax them in that regard. The only serious effect of this change is that the engine is not as detailed as it could be but even so the power plant does still look very good. The cockpit does not lose out as harness detail is nicely moulded as part of the seat. External detail still provides outstanding raised and recessed detail of the quality modellers could only dream of in the past. You will of course still need to take care during parts removal as there are some very fine moulded elements that could be easily damaged or broken.

Two finishing options are provided in this release and the decals are of a very pleasing quality with no issues that are obvious to me my eyes. Bombs and or drop tanks are nicely detailed and it is good to see decals for these items provided and detail on painting them as well. My efforts on one of MiniArt’s advanced kits failed to meet my expectations due to my ability; however I have seen advanced and basic kits of this model build from the box and been stunned by just how good they look.
