Airfix will be releasing in the summer a new version of their 1:48 scale Hawker Hunter, this time it’s the turn of the FGA.9/FR.10/GA.11

Underlining the Hunter's adaptability, the FGA.9 variant was developed in response to an RAF requirement to replace ground attack Venoms serving with units in the Middle East and was basically an F.6 airframe optimised for close air support operations.

Strengthening the Hunter's wing enabled it to carry an impressive array of offensive ordnance, with the FGA.9 presenting the RAF with one of their most capable ground attack fighters. 128 Hunter FGA.9s would see service with home based and overseas squadrons.

Hunter FR.10 was a single-seat reconnaissance version. They were converted F.6 airframes and 33 were built.

The Hunter GA.11 was a single-seat Royal Navy weapons training version. 40 ex-RAF Hunter F.4s were converted into the Hunter GA.11. The GA.11 had the guns removed and was fitted with an arrester hook and some later had a Harley light [nose fitted].

Kit includes:

  • Enlarged Hunter FGA.9 drop tanks
  • Hunter FR.10 camera nose
  • Enlarged flaps

One of the marking options features RAF Hawker Hunter pilot Alan Pollock in which flew unauthorised through the span of Tower Bridge on the River Thames.
