Run by master modeller Roy Sutherland, you know anything released by Barracuda Studios is going to be rather special. So it is with this exquisite resin seat for 1:32 F4U-1A/D kits produced for them by Mike Kirchoff.
The single-piece resin upgrade arrives in a simple zip-lock bag with a card backing and a sheet of instructions. The casting in the sample set is flawless and the seat itself looks fantastic with its integral harness. I know there's a school of thought that separate harness straps must be "better" - but how many times have you seen a perfectly good model cockpit ruined by an aftermarket seat harness that looks like it's made of cast iron? Done right, a cast-in-place harness can look amazing - capturing the way straps lie and fold over themselves in a way that's hard to better.
Suffice to say - Mike Kirchoff has done it superbly!

Preparation looks very straightforward. Although there's a substantial casting block to get plenty of resin into the mould, the seat is mounted on thinner runners so separating it should be a cinch with a razor saw.
As usual, Barracuda Studios include a well-produced sheet of instructions that feature colour photos and a step-by-step guide for preparing the seat.

Conclusion
This is another gem of a set from Barracuda Studios. Although designed for Tamiya's F4U-1A/D , it will obviously also make a massive difference to the "offices" of older kits (I'm trying to imagine our reaction to a seat like this when my friends and I built the Revell Corsair back in 1970!). I think it's excellent value for such a high quality upgrade that will be the first thing in sight if you pose your Corsair cockpit opened up and ready for inspection.
