Here we take a look at Kazan Model Dynamics Heavyweight Landing Gear update set for the F-16, destined for the Tamiya 1/48th kits.

Packed in a strong end opening box this 3D printed update set is securely wrapped in bubble wrap and cushioned with polystyrene inserts inside the box, the instructions also serve as added

protection as they are also wrapped around the parts.

This set contains 22 3D printed parts, 11 stainless steel tubes, which have been pre cut to the desired length, and a stencil data decal sheet, plus the instruction sheet.

The set completely replaces the main and nose gear wells and struts, along with the gear doors and wheels.

Each part is attached to the printed base with the larger parts having support rods still in place.

Clean up should be easy with only a little sanding to get rid of any access.

The parts are beautifully printed with no print lines present.

The main wheel well is very well detailed with pipe work, servos, panels and supports nicely printed and makes this area look very busy.

The main legs are one part, but do have separate struts which are made up of two metal tubes for each leg, which are capped off at each end with printed parts.

The main legs are one part, but do have separate struts which are made up of two metal tubes for each leg, which are capped off at each end with printed parts.

Retraction jack's are also made up of metal tubes and printed parts.

The hardest part of all this is going to be painting the wells and legs whilst trying to leave the tubing unpainted.

The whole of the main undercarriage is built before inserting it into the lower half of the Tamiya kit.

Once inserted into the kit the undercarriage doors can be fitted, which also has metal tubes for the retraction arms.

Printed wheels complete the main area, and are not weighted.

The nose wheel well has the main area glued onto the intake, be it the Tamiya kits, or Kazams seamless intake.

The nose gear is made up of two parts, with a one piece nose wheel.

A choice of nose gear doors is given.

The instructions are on one A4 size sheet of paper, with both sides used for the build sequence.

Black and white, with some red detailed drawings of the parts, along with helpful written hints make up the instructions, which at first glance looks rather daunting but once you read through it, it all makes sense.

Placement guide for the stencil data is given along the way, but there are no colour call outs for the parts.

Conclusion

This is a beautifully produced set, and adds to this area.

The hardest part of building this set will be painting and masking the various elements.

A great set to enhance the landing gear of the F-16 from Tamiya.
