Eduard have released a Brassin replacement for the propeller and spinner in their own Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10.

Arriving in a tough little flip-top box, the set comprises a beautifully detailed hub that's cast integrally with the back-plate, separate blades and cannon blast tube, plus a hollow spinner which features interior structural details. A jig is provided for aligning the blades, and everything is rounded off with an etched ring around the opening for the cannon.

In terms of assembly, the set looks very straightforward, but preparing the spinner and backing plate for use is likely to be a bit trickier. By necessity, the spinner has casting points on its exterior in order to keep it hollow, so it will need real care to avoid leaving visible marks. The backing plate has a hefty casting block, so very careful cutting and sanding will be required to remove it and keep everything level and true - because if you get it even slightly wrong, the spinner will sit cock-eyed.

As usual, Eduard provide a very nicely produced sheet of instructions with clear diagrams and colour matches for Gunze Sangyo paints.

Conclusion

This new spinner and propeller set is beautifully produced and should look superb. The crisply detailed propeller hub and the detail on the inside of the spinner instantly open up possibilities for servicing dioramas and vignettes. Despite the simplicity of the set itself, though, I think newcomers to working with resin would be best advised to get a few upgrades under their belt before tackling this, because preparing the parts (especially the back-plate) could so easily end in tears.

Many thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
