Eduard have released a set of 3D-printed "hedgehog" exhausts for Tamiya's 1:48 Beaufighter.

Eduard's new Brassin/PRINT Beaufighter exhausts are beautifully detailed and presented. The first thing you notice is the exceptional care with which they've been packaged - taped in place inside a little jewel-case of the type used for earrings etc. It not only looks classy, but it protects the parts perfectly in transit.

The parts themselves are exquisite - totally eclipsing the original kit exhausts. Each unit comprises 4 parts - the main "hedgehog" section, plus a choice of 3 styles of end cap. The individual exhausts are slightly hollowed-out, just enough to catch a wash to highlight them.

Preparation is remarkably quick and very straightforward, with each part mounted on a series of "stalks". Just running a sharp blade around the "stalks" is enough to free the part, complete with its locating lug ready for use. This is much simpler than working with conventional resin parts on casting blocks.

Along with the exhausts comes a small neatly illustrated sheet of instructions which include a colour match for Gunze Sangyo paint.

Conclusion

Eduard's Beaufighter exhausts are simply on a different level compared with the original Tamiya parts and will make an instant visual improvement to the kit and I think they are very well priced for the detail they offer. I'd normally recommend having a bit of extra experience before working with upgrades like these but, honestly, the preparation is so straightforward I say they are suitable for pretty much anyone - basically, if you can build Tamiya's Beaufighter, you should have no trouble adding these replacement exhausts.
