Rowan takes a look at Eurodecals' new set of 1:32 decals for the Typhoon sporting stunning "Union Jack" RAF display markings.

Eurofighter Typhoon s/n ZJ914 was rolled out in its striking new livery by 29 Squadron in the spring of 2021 for use until the end of this year's display season. Nicknamed the "Union Jack" scheme, the largely black design features stylised national flags above and below the wings and canards, plus a red spine and fin, with the latter sporting a large RAF roundel on either side.

Eurodecals' impressive set arrives on three sheets of decals. Two A4 sheets contain the main markings and servicing stencils, while a smaller sheet provides strips of dashes for the outlines of the "no walk" areas on the wings, along with a useful supply of swatches of the red and blue used for the scheme in case you need to patch any mistakes, and to ensure you can have a perfect match when painting the tail and spine (to make sure you match the red precisely, I'd recommend applying one of the spare swatches over black first).

As you'd expect with anything produced by Ray Horwell at Fantasy Printshop, the printing is immaculate, with the thin gloss-finished items showing pin-sharp registration and minimal excess carrier film. Still, leaving nothing to chance, the centres for the standard roundels are thoughtfully supplied separately for modellers to ensure perfect alignment using their Mk.1 eyeballs.

Accompanying the decals is a clear colour-printed A4 placement diagram for main markings and the mass of servicing stencils which are provided. Eurodecals include BS381C colour matches along with suggestions for Humbrol, Xtracolour, Xtracrylix and Lifecolor model paints.

Conclusion

Eurodecals' 2021 RAF Display Eurofighter Typhoon decals are beautifully produced. Inevitably, the price of hand-printed decals of this quality reflects the labour-intensive nature of their highly skilled production, but the completed model will look simply amazing and is sure to be a real head-turner at any club meet or model show.
