Phoenix is flying high
Just like the subject of our next book in our premium Red Series ‘The Lockheed U-2 Dragon Lady’.
The format may be familiar from our first two books on the F-16 but changes in printing and higher quality paper is a noticeable change in both our recent F-105 and this new title.
The Red series starts with a comprehensive history of the U-2 from the original top secret U-2A. to the current U-2S. This section is fully illustrated, many of which have not been seen before in print or online. We then move to a comprehensive walk around of a current U-2S with all the lumps and bumps.
This is followed by a selection of colour profiles that show that not all U-2s are black and this section also includes a profile of the Dodge Charger Chase Car that are used to assist the pilot on landing.
Next, we have a gallery of photographs taken of all of the operational U-2S aircraft when they have passed through RAF Lakenheath. For me this is a fascinating study for the modeler in how many shades of black are found on these airframes at a almost model scale distance, none are overall one shade of black.
We now move to the modelling section with a build of the 1/48 Scale Academy/Italeri Kit of the U-2S. While in 1/72 scale the author builds the Hobbyboss U-2A.
Finally new to the Red Series we will include a digital update QR code so you can access an exclusive web page where we can feature builds and accessories that we feature in future issues of PAM as well as any new photographs or artwork that may become available as the type finally leaves service. We already have a build of the new Hobbyboss U-2S that will feature in Julys issue which will be uploaded after the magazine has gone off sale.
In my honest opinion this is the best book we have produced to date and if you have any interest in the U-2 this is a must have for your bookshelf.
