Next on the F-4 Phantom II upgrade menu are the intake trunks and exhaust cans/nozzles.
This is one of those areas where you can spend a ridiculous amount of time sanding, filling, and sanding again, and still not get that perfect finish. Since I have more than one of these Meng Phantoms in my stash, I thought it would be a good idea to design and 3D print my own replacement parts to save some headaches in the future.
First up is a newly designed exhaust can with all the bells and whistles for all you detail fanatics. The exhaust can has also been lengthened to better reflect the real jet, and includes a proper afterburner flame ring. The nozzles received the same treatment, with the inner hydraulics recreated as accurately as I possibly could. The subtle weld marks were also successfully printed without looking over scaled.
The intake trunk has been made seamless, with the addition of a new intake turbine that looks much closer to the real jet. It took a few test prints to get the fit just right when viewed from all angles.
Both of these items are now available to purchase along with the cockpit upgrades (which has received enormous amount of support-thank you) from my store as physical prints and digital files!
