Hurricane Mk II C/Trop

Hurricane Mk II C/Trop
Hobby Boss continues to release version of the Hurricane in 1/48th scale with this release being the Hurricane Mk II C/Trop

Review

HobbyBoss has released another in their line of 1/48th scale Hurricanes and so I will keep this review short as the changes are limited to tropical air filters. This kit, as with previous releases, leaves me pleased with the cockpit of the aircraft as the detail is generally good throughout but you can always improve on it via after market. The exhaust of the aircraft will ideally be drilled or replaced with after market.

The surface detail as regards the model has pleasing replication of both canvas and metal skinned areas. I particularly like that the lower wing half covers the full wing span with the upper surfaces added after addition to the main body of the model, and so aiding in getting the angles right. The tropical air filter is well replicated, and panel line detail more than meets my expectations. But as with previous releases, there is a fly in the ointment, the horizontal tail surfaces has a horrible moulding mark on it on 1 side, which I believe would be difficult to rectify and I know that this fault has appeared on all previous releases, which indicates a fault with the mould and it is a real shame that they have not done anything about this.

Conclusion

The model is not a top end offering, as it is not loaded with bells and whistles, however, HobbyBoss does provide photo etched harness detail and masks for the clear areas which in combination with provided cockpit detail is a pleasing aspect. The surface detail, as I have said is very pleasing also, but I cannot overlook the issue with the horizontal tail surface which really should have been rectified by now due to a mould issue. Take a good look at the underside of the wing to highlight just how good the surface detail is.
