SNEAK PEEK!!

Dragon’s Ultimate 1/48 Bf-109E-4

Part 2: By Modellers, For Modellers

“For many years, building an airplane kit have been both a rewarding and frustrating experience for modellers. While seeing a beautiful representation of your favorite warplane can be joyful and satisfying, the process of building it can be difficult and requires a lot of time and patience. The puttying, the sanding, and the assembly itself can take even the most enjoyable experience and turn it into a nightmare!

Many experienced modellers we’ve talked to over the years have expressed their frustrations at some point with building warplane kits, mentioning the extra work involved to achieve desired results. We at Dragon Models have taken these comments to heart, and over the past 10 years we have been working hard to bring the joy back to warplane builds!

Dragon Models' latest revolutionary Wing Tech 2 series 1/48 Bf109E-4 plastic model kit is the culmination of years of research, engineering, and consulting with experience modellers to solve the issues of building warplane kits.

Let’s take a look at some key features of this game-changing new Bf109E-4!

Normally, the biggest challenge in building a warplane kit lies in attaching the left and right halves of the fuselage and attaching the upper and lower wings. It usually requires applying glue on both sides, and then sanding to achieve the desired results. However, this process can be messy and details on the wings could be sanded off if not careful. With Dragon’s new 1-piece fuselage and plug-in wing assembly design, these steps are simplified and hassle-free.

With other models, the rudder and flaps are usually fixed in place. Our new engineering features them as separate parts with positioning pins, making them easy to assemble and fully movable.

In other offerings, the engine and cockpit usually lacked detail because these parts are not highly visible, so other manufacturers tend to cut corners and simplified these important parts. For modellers to achieve their desired detail, they would have to freestyle hand paint it themselves, which is a tedious and frustrating task. Dragon understands this, and have added all the lines and details of the engine and cockpit to help make the painting process easier and more enjoyable.

In past versions, the landing gear and other internal compartments lacked enough detail. For our upgraded version, these parts are completely overhauled, and uses different materials to accurately reproduce these fine details in a 360 degree view.

One of the biggest challenges that we hear from modellers is putting together and painting the canopy. As the piece is transparent, any excess glue or paint can leave a stain that would ruin the aesthetics of the whole plane. For Dragon’s new Bf109, the window frames are pre-painted and the assembly is simplified to eliminate the potential for unsightly “mistakes”.

Traditional warplane kits use solid gun barrels and usually requires drilling to achieve the desired results. Dragon utilizes moulding techniques created for our tank kits and applied them to our new plane kits, resulting in open muzzles for all the gun barrels to increase realism of the guns.

Generally, painting the interior and exterior of an aircraft model can take a long time. It requires multiple processes of masking and airbrushing. Now, all the parts in this kit come pre-coloured, greatly reducing painting time. This is the first ever offering of pre-painted parts by Dragon!

In addition to our pre-colored parts, the new Bf109 kit also includes a complete set of camouflage decals, which can eliminate the need for painting if the modeller desires.

Included with this kit are two sets of decals for all the intricate details and markings on the aircraft that the modeller will need to create a historically accurate and detailed representation of the Bf109!

Finally, in another first for a Dragon kit, the Bf109E-4 is packaged in a completely transparent plastic box, which matches the innovativeness of our new series. It also allows for clear visibility of the contents inside.

Stay tuned for more information on this revolutionary new kit and other offerings from our Wing Tech 2 series”…………………………………………..Dragon
