The USAF equipped seventy one F-4Ds with the LORAN-D antenna (AN/ARN-92) . The antenna received signals from the Tactical Navigation Signal Station on the ground to control the fighter-bomber fleet, operating as a pathfinder. These aircraft were painted black on the underside as nocturnal fighter-bombers. They played a significant role during Operation Linebacker towards the end of the Vietnam War. The LORAN-D antenna is nicknamed the ‘towel rail’. This limited-edition kit precisely reproduces the antenna in plastic.
