More Naval T-Birds

Rowan reviews Iliad Design's latest 1:48 decal set for the Lockheed T-33 trainer.

Iliad Design have released a new set of 1:48 decals featuring more T-33s in Naval service.

Set #48040 contains markings markings for 4 aircraft:

1. T-33B s/n 141547, US Marine Corps HQ

2. Canadair T-33 Silver Star, VU 32, Royal Canadian Navy

3. TV-2 s/n 131777, Marine Air Sqn. 2, USMC

4. T-33B s/n 139014, VX-4, US Navy

All the schemes are interesting, but the Canadian Silver Star is really eye-catching with its areas of Fluorescent Red-Orange, while the TV-2 sports unusual large national insignia placed forward of the normal position on the fuselage sides, and the USN aircraft features very attractive trim along its fuselage and wingtip fuel tanks.

The decals look excellent quality as we've come to expect from Iliad Design, with pin-sharp registration and great colour density and accuracy. The items are beautifully thin, with the carrier film trimmed tight except where it links multiple elements. Space on the sheet means sufficient national insignia are included to complete three schemes if you don't opt for the TV-2 (its large fuselage markings use up those needed for the wings on the other US aircraft).

The set includes a detailed set of instructions with high quality colour artwork, plus reference photos and comprehensive notes on the points of interest in each scheme.

Conclusion

This is another excellent decal set from Iliad Design, offering a quartet of interesting alternative schemes for anyone modelling the perennially popular T-33 either as a stand-alone subject or as a part of a collection of classic jet trainers in 1:48. It reminds me that I really should dust off my stalled GWH build and this could be just the prompt I need to do so!

Set #48040 is available from Iliad Design now - Price:  $12.00
