Douglas Skystreak

Some notes about the model
The kit is Special Hobby's D-558-1 Skystreak in 1/48 scale. It contained a resin cockpit wich also included the intake divider as well as some PE for the cockpit and undercarriage.  Also included in the kit are resin wheels and tires. The completed cockpit is nicely detailed (see photo) but not much can be seen with the canopy buttoned up. I had to add some styrene to fill in the joint at the front of the fuselage because the resin cockpit was a bit too wide.

The base coat was Tamiya X-2 and the finish coat was Tamiya X-7 with a drop of X-2 added. The silver parts were painted with Floquil bright silver (I LOVE this stuff). The whole plane was polished and given a coat of Future, decaled, and a final coat of future was applied. It was finished off with a wash of Promodeler black. This was a great kit with very minor fit issues. Decals were excellent quality and went down easily.

As I already pointed out in the campaign tread: excellent build! The red colour is stricking and it looks very fast in a 50-60ties sort of way Thanks for sharing

Thanks Jesper, I had a lot of fun building this kit even though early jets aren't really my thing. Honestly, had I known Jean-Luc would want to do a feature on it I'd have taken more time and done a better job. Merlin is building this same kit for the speed campaign and I'm sure he'll do it more justice. Still trying to find my wings, but I'm gettin' better. Hermon

Hi Hermon Great Job! It looks really stunning! I hadn't realised that you were building this one for the Speed Campaign too! I'll have to put my thinking cap on to find an alternative entry - it's silly to enter two identical builds when there are so many suitable subjects. All the best Rowan
