Terri,
Now that's one impressive build for sure. Just the right about of weathering for a maintained operational aircraft.

Fantastic result Terri! I love the weathering and the overall look you've achieved gives me ideas for my own.

I've got two ..... three of the old Hasegawa kits??? It now looks like I'll have to get a couple of the new Hasegawa's as well as the new Tamiya kit! I think I'm going to see if I can create a new interior for the old using the new as a template should be a lot od fun!

Hi Chris , thanks for the kind comments towards the build and I'm also glad that it stirred up some ideas for you .

I would like to get another Zero , but it will be the Tamiya kit . You should well with your plans , you have the skills for it and it would be great entertainment for the rest of us .

Thanks Joel . I was thinking about going nuts with the chipping , but it would have seem out of place with the rest of the 32 scale collection .

Your not building aircraft anymore ?

Terri,
I've always felt the same way as you, that the weathering per model should reflect the entire collection. Nothing looks worse then one model being nearly museum quality, and the model next to it looks like it's on it's last legs.

As for not building aircraft now, that's pretty much correct. My passion most of my life from 15 or so on was road racing cars, not American muscle in a straight line. I was the only one in HS that even knew the names of some of these cars. I've owned a few sport cars, raced them, won a Enduro Karing Championship, and with cable tv got to actually see a ton of races, not just one or two that I could drive to per year.

But plastic modeling from my pre-teen years on was always about military modeling. My IPMS club and contests were military aircraft only. That's all I knew how to build. The few cars I tried on the QT looked horrendous when done, and that was a compliment. I've been a "closet" auto modeler for some time, just never built nor posted, but the urge just kept on growing. I literally spent more time on you tube watching car building vids then aircraft vids. I was just hooked again. I built one car, the Porsche 917K, and actually was able to get an acceptable gloss finish. the Lotus Type 72E is just that much better, and hopefully the next will be as well.

At 70+ time is no longer on my side. It's something that all of us will face sooner then later. For me, it's not sooner, it's here now. There is no buy it now, build it during retirement. I'm retired now. My health isn't what it use to be, my eyesight is failing (I'm already legally blind in the left eye), so I made the conscience decision to build what I've always wanted to build.

My overall yearly building plan is for one, maybe two aircraft that I have a interest in. It's a perfect alternate build to cars. A Mojo builder.

One thing that I'm going to do is thin out my aircraft stash as I've got way more kits then I'll ever build, a good deal are duplicates and most have Eduard Masks, some have AM parts as well.

While my aircraft building will be less, I'll still be active on Aeroscale keeping you guys/gails honest

Terri, that's a wonderful build of one of the most beautiful military aircrafts that ever took to the sky. You'll be right with not going over the top with weathering. This is a build you can be proud of. And now I realized you've built the machine of famous CPO Takeo Tanimizu, one of the very few Zero Aces to survive the war. I've build this aircraft in 1/48 out of the old Tamiya kit years ago.

Joel, I fully understand your reasons to switch your building interest from aircraft to racing cars. It's about the same with me, building now more and more AFV. The reason for that lies back in the 1980's during my army time. I always had a soft spot for the Leopard 2 and always will. But I'll still build aircraft, My goal is to build one by one in the future. At least this hobby is all about fun and we are free to decide what we want to build.

Happy modelling!

Torsten,
Thanks my friend for understanding my point of view. I'm going for 2 then one for now, as I've got quite a few aircraft models on my display shelves and just 3 race cars.

Great Job, Terri!

You really brought this beautifully together. All the added e/p makes a difference for sure; sadly one can't see much of the nice engine.

Hey Joel ,

My passion has always been WW 2 aircraft every since my youth . Not so much on the war end of it but at a design perspective . Such sleek lines and beautiful , a sexy quiaty about them . I used build cars , armour , the odd ship . Always going back to aircraft . I still but WW 1 . I understand where you are coming form .

Thanks for the kind comments Thomas

The cowl isn't glued in place . The fit is very tight so I can pull the prop and cowl off to display the engine .

Thanks Torsten . I'm very pleased on how the weathering turned out on this one . There is two different shades of yellow for the under tones .
