And here is my HMS Trafalgar. I had so much fun painting it that I decided to strip all the paint off so I could paint it again! I even knocked one of the fins off so I could assemble it again!

Throw in a rubber ducky and it looks like you could have some bath time fun!

Actually it's a diorama of a modeler taking the paint off a sub. It took forever to get the water effect just right.

Here is my entry for this campaign, Revell's Haven-Class "S.S. Hope". She been sitting around the bench this past year after I develop an urge to build armor. I am over that now and ready to take on some delayed ship builds. I thought this one deserves to be finish.

Someone asked how to go about a campaign, so here is a link to a campaign tutorial thread I wrote a few years ago for Armorama. It should still work for other Kitmaker sites.

Good morning all.

I would like to join in this GB. I started my first ship model last autumn of 2017, and it has been pretty slow going. (The last ship model I did was about 50 years ago when I was still in my teens. I think it was Revell's HMS Victory.)

Anyway after re-starting scale modelling as a hobby about 8 years ago I built exclusively aircraft - mostly biplanes, and Inter-War. I found it was getting a bit stale so that's why I decided to have a go at ships again.

After much research I decided on Lindberg's Blockade Runner (USRC Harriet Lane). It has been slow going as there isn't much reliable information on it. So I chose to make a generic side wheel steamer of the post US Civil War era.

I was stalled many times doing research on rigging techniques, sail making etc., so I thought that entering this group would motivate me to finish.

I have participated in several GB's on Aeroscale, so I am familiar with how GB's work and the Campaign Gallery etc. I will be posting some photos of the in-progress model soon. The kit was inexpensive and the parts pretty sharp with not much flash.

Here are 3 photos of the ship. I have not mounted the paddle wheels, and paddle boxes until I finish the rigging. The sail, which I copied, more or less form the plastic one from the kit, is made from silk span and painted with acrylic paint. I used elastic thread of different sizes for the fixed and running rigging.

I intend to make a topssail and main sail for the fore mast and a jib/fore stayssail. also I have yet to finish the shrouds and ratlines.

The Lindberg kit was originally released as the United States Revenue Cutter Harriet lane. It was built in 1857. It was 'drafted' into the US Navy during the Civil War, captured by the south, and converted to a fast blockade runner. From what I read it could do 11 knots -not bad. More info on the Harriet lane and blockade runners to come in future posts.

That sail looks quite a bit better than painted plastic.

Well lets see if this works.

The workspace with the bits all ready

Then I layed down some paint. No primer this time, just some alcohol wipes I "procured" from work to clean it up.

This kit only has two sprues outside the one piece hull and deck. Not a complicated model but I have to admit: a small fear I may be using the airbrush incorrectly has caused some hesitation on my part.

But, practice makes perfect. Since I got this kit for $7 at Hobby Lobby, it will be my test mule before I get something I really want to build.
