Well a slight annoying glitch has befell my Harrier. The last part to do was add a dull coat before adding all the clear parts for it to be finished when low and behold the Humbrol matt coat decided to turn my model white .
It now looks like its covered in a frost.
Trying to sort it out at the moment, from various "fixes" I have found on the net.

Andy:Very sorry to hear that. When did you applied the coat? Was it acrylic or lacquer? You should wait at least 12-24 hours before thoughts about a "fixing", mostly the white fog disappears after a while.

I did my next step, announced in my latest post. The whole pattern came not out exactly what I was aiming for, but it's o.k.; all masking could have been done more accurate.
Now decals, small parts and landing gears...

Just stopped in this thread because I love the Harrier and this is a great slew of Harriers indeed. Andy, sorry to hear about your finish. The Humbrol Matte; is it acrylic or enamel based? I have found laying down another clear coat using the opposite of what I initially sprayed will clear out the frost.

Regards,

Ian

Hi all,
Yep it was the acrylic version, and after about 12 hours it was still frosty.
I have painted the Harrier in Revell thinners, which has done the trick, and left it completely matt, I might add, but did take out the panel line washes .
I will have to add another gloss coat, re-do the washes and pray the dull coat doesn't frost up again.
I did learn one thing on my travels around the web, looking for a fix, matt coats have talcum powder in them for the matting agent. Its that what causes the frost.

Well it is mostly sorted with several applications of Gloss and matt coats.
Anyway its finished.

Very well done Andy! Great build and a good fix on that "frost-issue". It's very good looking. Congrats for finishing

I'm still in the dacaling process - now it's day 3 with that estimate 200+ partial tiny decals ...

Thanks.
Err colours were umm (looking in the paint drawer as I have gone and put them away )
I think it was Vallejo ModelAir, Dark Sea Grey (uppers) and US Grey (lowers), I did add a little white to the Dark sea grey.
It was the Vallejo equivalent of the Gunze/Mr Color range.

Okay, I call it done
There are always parts you like to change or redo but for now I
finished the 1/72 AIRFIX Hawker Siddeley Harrier Gr.3 - 4.(R) Squadron RAF, Gütersloh, Germany 1980.

Nice kit with no bigger issues. Details, panel lines etc. are really beautiful for this scale; clear parts are o.k. and the decals went on easy and smooth (a lot of tiny common stencils... )

I used Gunze for the undersides and for the metalized parts, on top there are Humbrol acrylics finally all covered with Vallejo satin. Some pastels, pigments and water based wash for weathering.

Michael, thanks for hosting! Was a fun campaign with some beautiful builds

Excellent GR.3 Thomas. The natural metal finish on the Matra rocket pods looks particularly good.

Hi,

Nice weathering on Harrier, Andy.
Thomas's and Linus's Harriers are also beautiful to me.

I continue my 1/72nd FRS-1. Just cover the paint. Hope to finish it.

K.

Perhaps a one week extension, or is more needed? What does everyone think?

Hi,

One week extension is a good chance. Richard, hope you finish your Harrier.
My FRS-1 is done with a pair of Sea Eagle and two pairs of Sidewinder.

I use enamel Tamiya XF-54 Dark Sea Grey as the main color and cover it by lacquer Mr.Color 181 semi-gloss clear. It's not dried yet completely when taking the photos,

K.

Mr.K: Very nice and clean build with the decent weathering
of a well maintained Navy-aircraft !
Very good photos too - obviously not made with a mobile phone

We had some nice sunset here, so as always I couldn't resist to take some pics in the natural light; hope you don't bother...
