Have not got any photos of the Stuka from today but it pretty much the same as the previous photos Ive just masked off the cockpit, primed the fuselage and sprayed some pre shading of panel lines. Doesn't sound like much but took a few good hours

small update although I don't have any pics yet but made some progress even though I haven't had much time to work on it.

finished the Shvetsov M-22 licensed Bristol Jupiter engine for the I-5. Fit was not the best and they way it was molded made it impossible to 100% line up all the parts although I think I got it about 97% lined up. although because the I-5 has a engine cover not really going to be able to see it.

I also got the internals all put together and the fuselage done although again not the best fit so its going to need some putty.

And in an ongoing theme the bottom wings did not fit the fuselage so I have been slowly shaving the joint sides to try and get it to fit flush.

In case anyone wash't aware, the gallery is experiencing issues. Admin is aware of it and working on it. I'll try to post when it gets fixed.

I planned to build the Revell (ex-matchbox) Fairey Swordfish, but then the U-2/Po2VS started winking at me from the stash, and I changed my mind...

So this is what I plan to build for this campaign...



The mouldings look really nice, but ever so delicate. I can see bits getting broken as I snip them from the sprue...

Looking at my stash I have several candidates for fixed landing gear aircraft but which one to pick?? I'd like to do one that is not represented so far. Anyone doing a kit of the Cr42 Falco yet?

And then inspiration strikes! While looking through my kit database (yes I have database because the stash is so large I forget what's in there!) I found a kit of the SM.81 Pipistrello a Regia Aeronautica fixed landing gear bomber/transport from the early to middle war years. Plenty of fantastic Italian camo schemes I think I'll do the version from the Russian front as that has a great squiggle pattern and the yellow theater bands that make the camo job just pop. So here's a few pics of the kit.

I have found a kit for this build, a PZL 24G. I think the G stands for Greece as it is in Greek markings and several differences to standard according to the instructions. Will post photos shortly.Some interesting builds happening. Phil.

Which kit is the PZL-24? Mirage? In1/48? I've got the PZL-11 and I have built one previously, it was a great kit but careful fitting of parts is essential.

I'm a returning aircraft modeller, having not really built anything for at least **cough2cough0coughyearscough**

I've lurked on Aeroscale for awhile but thought I might make this my first campaign with one of my favorites :

another small update after almost wanting to throw the kit against the wall. As I previously said the bottom wing did not fit. Well that was an understatement I had to shave off about .2mm off the cockpit floor, trim the sides on both the wings and the fuselage and only now is there somewhat a semblance of an acceptable fit. Now its going to need a good amount of putty to make it, I hope look good


So be warned if you have this ICM I-5 kit in your stash. Be prepared to do some major fitting work. Although I don't know if this hold true for ICM's other I-5 variant kits but I would think so

And we have progress for a full description of the goings on check out my build log! here are some pics to help show you what's been going on.

Kinda got a bit of a rush of blood and forgot to take pictures of the build !
But here it is on the paint table.
Primer and preshade. The kit only came with white crosses and as I wanted black centres I decided to paint a blob in the middle that the decal would mask.


Base coat of 4:1 Tamiya Desert Yellow and Red Brown. Light Blue underneath


EasyTak Camo pattern



Tamiya Dark Green applied



And the big reveal after peeling off all the Easy tak !



Next up will be some coats of Future and some washes.

I got a little more done I used stretched sprue to replace detail lost around the injector pins, take a look at the pics and you'll hopefully see what I mean.

@ Chris. Like the look of the Pipistrello. Might have to get one and do it up in Spanish civil war colours... Gotta love those sinister black circles and black crosses on the white tail...

@ Campaign leader. Quick question: can I use the ski option on the U2/Po-2BC instead of the wheels? I guess they are still "fixed gear"....

Added filler to where I’d gauged out large chunks of the tail… Ooops!

Not much left to do now.. Just add the landing gear (not sure if I’ll go with skis or wheels), MG and a few bombs and that’s about it… Oh and the rigging...

I've painted the inside and assembled the wings which exhibited great fit. Control surfaces and flaps are all separate, with the flaps being nicely detailed. They could no doubt be posed convincingly however the photo's I've seen of this bird at rest show the controls at neutral and the flaps up. Not that that's going to stop me displaying the flaps down.

I've also got the flaps and various doors painted as well, again some great detail here. I've got decals to apply to the inside of the fuselage and then to add some shadows and weathering. As well as the turrets to assemble and paint before I can close up the fuselage. But it's coming along very nicely!
