Great job on the Jug on the Simon, the weathering is excellent.

Onward with the Seahawk. jetpipes and inner wing ends in place, they will give some structure ot the inner wing sections to add the extended outer wings.



Fuselage together, the nose halves don't fit too well, hence the masking tape.

Final assembly done - this kit has 2 different variations for the large panels just in front of the wings below the cockpit, meaning that I could leave one side open until this stage to ensure that I wouldn't end up with a tail sitter, as it was there was just enough weight to keep the nose down just in the nose, but I decided to cram a little more weight in there anyway, just to be safe


Painted in readiness for the French markings included with this kit, purely because I have built plenty of aircraft in American markings recently, so I just wanted a change of scenery, and this looked like quite an interesting scheme

Simon.L, nice progress on your F-84. I just moved some parts to remove from the tree and the braced canopy fell on the floor and has been eaten by that MONSTER .

Simon H. it looks like we both are keeping the putty industry employed with our builds. I still cannot get over the tail pipe paint job. I have come up with a MAYBE fix for me to replicate your method.

Well I'm certainly enjoying the great builds on this campaign. I'm trying to catch up. I'am also finding lots of places to putty on my Hobbyboss kit. The fuselage is together the nose weighted and lower wing installed. I was hoping by attaching the lower wing first I might reduce the wing fuselage seam. We shall see. In some of my research I saw blast tubes for the 20mm cannon so I added them.

Black wing stripes, small French flags on the tail and part of what I presume are the squadron numbers on the nose are painted, either because the decals tore or just refused to come free of the backing paper. Seriously the flag decals were soaking for about an hour, and still would not slide, so I gave up and painted the flags free hand. The squadron numbers were also painted free hand from the places where the decals tore.

One F8F Bearcat, I am using the PE upgrade set from Eduard for this kit, as well as the spare stores from an academy P-38 I built recently because the kit is a little light on detail and the underwing stores are not very convincing

Anyway, this should take me considerably longer because I have never used a PE set like this before, so that is going to be a challenge, and besides, you are probably getting a little bit sick of me by now!

P.S @Bob - I nearly had that problem with the canopy myself, I saved it from the carpet monster only to then have to rescue it from another monster known as the domestic cat!

Nice job Simon.L on the F-84, as for my canopy I will just have to go with the unbraced version.

Does anyone have experience in how long it takes to get a replacement part from Revell?

It can take anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months, depending upon how busy they are and whether the parts are current or not. Call it an average of 5 weeks or so and you probably won't be disappointed.

Well I'm moving slowly along and I've come to the part of building planes I hate that kept me building tanks for the last 10 years filling seams and sanding.The wing to fuselage joints were huge.


I glued in stretched sprue to back fill the seams. While Simom is knocking out fighter bombers like a WW2 Lockheed factory I'm building 3 armor kits for Armorama group builds.

I guess I am, but hey, thats probably just because I have too much free time on my hands at the minute, I do have a job (well an apprenticeship to be exact, but it still counts, its full time, and I'm getting paid to do it) but that does not start until September so I'm twiddling my thumbs a bit until then!

The windscreen in place and masked, the canopy also masked, unfortunately the sliding section covers part of the rear fusalege decking, so cannot be used to mask the cockpit.



Exhausts and cockpit masked, intakes masked with blue tack.



Wheel bays masked as well.



Undercariage legs that need to be fitted before join the fuselage halves are a real pain.

A base coat of matt white sprayed on,



Next I am going to have a go at pre shading.

Here is some progress on the Bearcat

Firstly the cockpit

It is a little bit rough around the edges (by a little, I mean VERY rough around the edges) but it is all there, oh and the stick is actually a .50 cal machine gun barrel from the same academy lightning I am scrounging the under wing stores from!


Fuselage halves together and I have to say - I heard many things about Testors kits having terrible fit issues, but even with the Eduard cockpit the fuselage halves fitted together beautifully, just a little sanding needed here and there


Eduard undercarriage wells fitted, they just need a little adjustment at the edges


Remember what I said about the fit? Here are those fit issues - these are going to need some serious filling as they are almost 2-2.5mm wide in some places


here is the academy 500lb bomb next to the Testors offering - there is no caparison really is there?

It was such a bright day I managed to get the white on as well.

@Simon.H - That sea hawk is looking great so far, I love the fleet air arm camo schemes

On the subject of paint, the Bearcat has some too! All over US Navy dark blue livery with some heavy chipping around the wing roots and on the leading edges of the tail assembly, This shot was taken during the chipping process, so basically when I was scraping off the Maskol. I will add the orange stripe some time soon I hope, and judging from the finish so far, this is going to be one very shiny aeroplane, there is no clear cote on the model yet!

Is there a particular reason the Me 262 is not on the list?

It seems to fall in the group as mustang, BF 109 etc. it fulfills all the criteria and certainly dropped bombs in anger many times.

I am considering building one for this campaign, but cannot see the Me 262 on the list.

And it is my entry to the campaign - a new 1/48 Westland Whirlwind from Trumpeter. As far as i remember i always liked that aircraft. The first model of it i saw was a paper model issued in the bragging of 1990's. I hope that i will be a nice build.
