It looks wonderful so far Paul. I hope you can get a finish you can be happy with. I know well, the last steps can be the most troublesome...

Ive set aside the Neptunes for a while. I need to do some practice work with vacuform canopies before I go on with the un-replace-able Aeroclub ones.

My original project when I proposed this campaign was to be some C-121s. today I got a box down and started afresh.

The arctic orange and white scheme provided with the kit is appealing, but I wont be using it this time. Also, another random unopened kit. I never make one model when i can make two.

nose weights from the junk metal bin epoxied in place.

A good start, not much work will be needed to clean up the seams.

So I'm calling time this one. I'm really happy with how it turned out especially since (a) its the first large scale jet i've built in oh.... 20 years??? (b) it's the first time i've done any real work with an airbrush and (c) it's my first campaign here !
I've learned a lot that i'll take forward to following projects too.

The weathering isn't at all obvious in the photos but i really struggled trying to get decent pics with a camera phone due to the size of this thing!

Jonathan, where are you obtaining your collection of a/c kits? Some I have not seen for many moons.

Paul: You really did a great Job! Quite impressed how you managed this kit which ends in a beautiful bird. Your "a". "b" and "c" are also true for me if I can finish my started campaigns.

Oliver: Your second finished campaign within a few weeks - can't believe it Especially with another fantastic work on those two beauties! Like it much

Jonathan: Nice to see you starting your build.

I didn't gave up and be still on my bench, but life sometimes disturb the hobbies...
And first my "Schwalbe" has to be finished where I'm still at the paint stage.

Paul: Wow, this is a real nice and big Lookheed bird. I like it very much! Hope there will be many intererested in the lifesavers campaign You proposed!

Thomas: Thank You very much! Next build of an Sikorsky H-19 will probably take more time! I even could not begin it, due to some real life operation !

Jonathan: Interesting kit! Who is the manufacturer?

Hiya John, nice big Herky bird you've got there. So far so good!

I did some piece work today, assembled eight little engines for two Connies.

Oliver This is a Minicraft kit. The plastic is rather simple, but Minicraft kit designers do interesting research and provide a lovely decal and story of the subject.

Jonathan, I just missed out on one of those Minicraft kits for the Connie. I am looking forward to the Blue Angel version kit on Wed.

Hi Everybody,
Been over a month since my last post where I said that I should be done in a week . Time flies when the weather is good and yard work needs being done. I finally have the Aurora completed, the decals went down nicely after I got them off of the backing paper. It seemed that everyone of them stuck on til the last second when, of course, I ripped them . Not too bad though, i was able to use all of them. My only problem was with attempting to give it a pin wash to highlight the panel lines. I don't seem to have a knack for something that appears to be so simple, a skill to work on. Here are some pics

I decided that I liked the look of the plane in the air so i built a small stand to put her on.

Here's a front shot. Hand painting with a brush requires a steady hand that i definitely don't have. This was a fun build, now to decide on my next build

One begins and one finishes, we are moving along nicely. Hello Richard, we meet again!

Ron, you got a splendid result there with your Aurora. I agree, it does look good in flight, nice work building a stand.
Pin wash is above my pay grade, not even sure how its accomplished - but in 1/144 scale, panel lines are vanishingly small, so its just as well.

Please choose some nice pictures to add to our gallery (see instructions in a post earlier on this page.)
Looking forward to seeing more of your work around here!

Airframes complete, in primer.

The EC-121 will be painted in late 60s-70s gull grey and white. The JC-121 observatory will be in the mostly white scheme of the only one ever built.

The wooden shape on the model is actually a vacuform plug. The observation deck features large windows, so Ive decided to make the dome out of clear plastic and mask the windows.
Also, however unlikely, if anyone else wants to build this model in the future, I can provide the vacuform part for a small price...

Ill be producing the decal sheet as well.

I'll echo Jonathan in saying the Aurora looks great in flight, congrats on a lovely model Ron.

And Jonathan, those c121's look pretty sharp already. Unusual variants too, you learn something new every day 😊

Jonathan: I am puzzled! What was the aim of the JC-121?

Oliver

It is an observatory. It was used in the Pacific Missile Range in the 1960s. The rocket scientists would fly around the missile launch range to observe and film the test missions.
The room in the dome is like a stadium sky box, and the open door contains film camera mounts.

Missions like this one -
