Replacement decals have arrived!!! This build is almost in the bag!

Over the weekend I got the rearview mirror attached and painted with some super chrome foil on the face.

I also got the spinner masked and painted, its far from perfect but the size and shape hide alot I think. Still im happy with it being its only the 2nd attempt. My process needs refining though, only because in this scale with the size of spinner along with my fingers and a fresh #11 blade in such close proximity its tough to see whats going on and manuipulate it all without cutting into the piece too much or getting my finger recontoured.
.

Now to get some decaling done...(again)

Well everyone, real life intruded pretty brutally on Friday and I have been hors de combat. I'm sorta back now, and true to my word am declaring this P-51 campaign closed. I'll be awarding ribbons right away.

Great work everyone!!

Tamiya 1/48 F-51D

Still plugging away...

My air compressor decided to die unexpectedly today so now I need to get another before I can do any painting. Fortunately I was done with my work when it happened.

I decided to experiment with some of the techniques in my Aircraft Scale Modeling F.A.Q. and am pleased with the results. I need to fine tune some aspects of post-shading Alclad NFM but I like how it came out. I did the base coat of overall aircraft aluminum with some panels picked out in duraluminum and steel around the exhausts. Then I used one of the books ideas and took Tamiya Smoke to different areas and some panel lines. It gives it the impression of some wear on the different panels, and I think it made it much more interesting.

I did similar Smoke detailing on the two piece spinner, and still need to finish detailing the landing gear, props, rockets and drop tanks.

I like the effects but I need to practice them some more.

Tamiya 1/48 F-51D

Almost done, too bad she ended up a hanger queen.

I overdid the chipping on the prop and used the kit stencils for it, I don't care for how it turned out at all. I am going to strip the blades back down and redo them with much lighter chipping and some leftover Cartograf stencils I have in the stash. The Kagero decals for Enchantress are awesome, I won't hesitate to buy more from them in the future.
