Hello everyone,

Been working at a slow but steady pace on my Roc.
The kit seems pretty decent, although I am expecting some fit issues sooner or later. Overall I believe any modeler with average skills as I have can build a good replica from it.

A few improvements I made all concern thickness of parts, namely cowling, intakes and exhaust tube.

Here are a few photos of the work so far...

Some more weathering need on this fuel tanks.

Currently working to finish the engine and the Bolton Paul Turret. Perhaps I manage some work and a update before a short holiday period

Cheers

Hello again,

Thank you Simon, I sure am having fun with this model

Here is a quick update, sorry for the lousy quality of the photos. Tried to capture using a lovely evening sunset light but somehow it compromised the focus.

Since the instructions are a bit vague, got a wrongly glued up wall...had to snap it to fit it those floors. But otherwise the fit seems very decent indeed

And today arrived the much needed masks. I guess optimism made me convince myself that masking the dreadful turret would be easy...dead wrong lol

Cheers

Pedro----Great work on the Roc thus far. Your weathering on the fuel tanks is superb.

I masked off the white ID bands on the Hellcat and applied the Sea Blue topcoat. Post shading and weathering will follow. Photos indicate these 800 Sdn Hellcats were very flat and very worn so that is the look I will be going for on the finish.

Best wishes,

Ian

Pedro,

The instructions can be a bit vague in places, but looking the business, good luck with the masking.

Nice paint job Ian,

hoping to start the rigging on the pup over the weekend,

Thanks Simon!

I applied the post shading to the Hellcat using Sea Blue lightened with a few drops of white. Masks were then removed and the plane is ready for more weathering.

Best wishes,

Ian

A little more weathering on the Hellcat......used the dot method with mineral spirits to mottle and filter the finish some more.

Best wishes,

Ian

Hi Ian,

Great paint job, the shading and filters add real depth with out looking over-arted.

Thanks Simon! I went ahead and drew in the panel lines using a .005 Micron Pen. Then I shaded the lines with Tamiya Smoke applied via my airbrush. I then added worn natural metal areas using Floquil Old Silver and a silver pencil. I also just airbrushed on the exhaust stains using Testors Interior Black. Just about ready to gloss coat for decaling.

Best wishes,

Ian

Ian - that is awesome painting and weathering! I'll definitely be stealing a few of your ideas.

A bit more Sea Venom cockpit progress. The instrument dial face decals are in, and I've tried out Kristal Kleer for the first time, and it works a treat:

Ian,

splendid job on the weathering Ian.

Lee,

Instrument panel is coming on great.

A very small update on the Pup, have started the rigging with the control wires for tail surfaces.

Cheers Chaps!

Simon - the rigging looks amazing. I couldn't even attempt something like that, my fingers are like tree trunks!

I applied the decals to the Hellcat this weekend. The XtraDecals laid down perfectly and were really nicely printed.

Sub assemblies are complete and weathered on the Hellcat. Time for a flat coat.

Well this is one is done and posted in the gallery. The plane depicted is a Hellcat II from 800 Squadron, FAA, Far East Theater, 1945. All in all this was a very fun build. I look forward to seeing the other completed projects in this campaign.

Best wishes,

Ian

A question for my fellow FAAers. I have badly overextended myself modeling wise and thought I'd pull back a bit and do something simple for this campaign, such as a Tamiya 1/48 Corsair. When I finally found my F4U-1 kit, however, it seems that at some point I put a base coat of green on the interior parts and metallic grey on the engine.

SO... Do you all think that would be cheating as it has, technically, been started? I await your judgement.

Michael
