The FS colour code for Air Mobility Command Grey is 36173. IPMS Stockholm's colour charts say Humbrol 156.

"I declare my entry"
Jessica I am close to finishing the K2 build review, the two fuselage half's snap together so well that it makes test fitting hard so make sure you have the intakes installed correct!

I declare my entry

It will wear Fűndekals markings for the "RNZAF" Vulcan.

Is that the one that ran off the end of the runway and was left stranded?

No, it's the one that visited RNZAF Station Ohakea in 1972. The aircraft was "zapped" with RNZAF roundels (alcohol was likely involved) and flew home with Kiwis proudly adorning both sides of its nose

I took out the Sunderland to go over and found that the clear parts for all the round windows was not very good so I am trying this to see if it works I put some Tamiya tape on the outside then filled the inside with Future now I just have to wait and see if it works.

Cheers Rob.

If that doesn't work, try using clear packing tape on the outside, and carefully flood in Superglue. Don't use accelerator; let it cure by itself. It ought to dry clear and undistorted.

Well...

It does work, but will require a little more time than my test.
The Future shrinks quite a lot so upon removing the tape I pulled out one window and the other was not clear because of the tape texture but a small dab of Future fixed that.

So it is going to take multiple coats of Future to get the windows done, but they do come out nice and clear.

I am going to paint the sides of the plane first that way I don't have to mask all the windows.

Cheers Rob.

Thanks Jessica!

That would work as well as probably epoxy but I want to try and use something that is a little more forgiving If you know what I mean.

Cheers Rob.

I have been working on getting the windows done.

The first step was to paint the fuselage sides white I just used Krylon white primer, then I masked the windows with Tamiya tape carefully sealing the tape(I used a eraser on the end of a pencil, rotating it to seal all the window edges) I then turned the fuse's over and taped them to a board to make them easier to work with.

Next using a piece of bamboo skewer, I dipped the end into a container of Future then touched the drop on the edge of each window, this helped keep the air bubbles down(I still managed to let one tiny bubble sneak by ) I have repeated this process 4 times so far and will stop when the dried Future is the same level as the inside of the fuse.

Cheers Rob.

Hi all, I finally got the Revell British Army Apache finished and I'm glad. I was getting a bit bored with re-glueing all the bits I knocked off, especially the bombs. The bombs almost drove me nuts!

It's a pity Revell only opened the front "door" of the cockpit. I just couldn't face cutting the rear door open after breaking the other bits so many times.

Here you can see a bit of scratchbuilt guard around the gun:

And with some 1/144 figgies:

Hope you like it.

Looks like the Future might be working OK. I didn't have as mush luck with the super glue approach:

it was hard to get a smooth surface on the front face, I ended up filling it and just painting them gloss black at the end.

Mark,
It's too bad you painted them already, a coat of Future on the surface might have cleared that up.

It seems to be working out great so far I'm going to leave it a few days before I remove the tape.

Cheers Rob.

You might wish to try silver decal film, or mask and paint them light silver-grey.

Well,
I must say that my little experiment went well the windows came out Great a couple of tiny air bubbles in places but nice and clear.

The first pic is after taking off the tape, it leaves a dull finish like frosted glass. A thin coat of Future applied with a brush and they are nice and clear. The top window is done in this pic.

The second pic has the Future applied to all windows and although it's tiny you could read the text through the windows.

Cheers Rob.

Amazing, what you achieved with that Future stuff!

I got my kit for this campaign now on my workbench..it seems to become a really neat little model for such big beast!

I'm glad it worked the way I hoped and it's a nice technique to have in the toolbox.

I must be insane! Alright, I'm in. The plan is to do a couple of Sweet Aviation Macchi C200AS as they would appear in North Africa in 1942 (or there abouts). We'll see what happens!

Here's the kit:

Probably won't be starting it until I finish my Ancient Airfix II Campaign submission:

Yes, this is 1/144, too.

Basic construction of the Vulcan takes little time. The fit is quite nice once everything is matched up.

I've painted the windows satin black. I'll mask them once the paint is dry.

Gee, Jessica. I know your an outstanding modeller, and I certainly will never question your superior abilities. However, I'm curious as to why you chose to black the the outside of the canopy windows and mask.
Is it not less work and hassle to just black the entire inside of the canopy, since your masking the wind-screens anyway? Would that not eliminate any tape lifting risk?
Just wondering why you took the approach you chose.
