Jan, your lot is...

[i]#58 Oh Carp.[/b]Ohhhhohohohohoh Jan you got one of my stinkers. You must build any aircraft named for one of the following:

A fish.
A crustacean.
A marine mammal....

Thanks for all the suggestion guys!

Not much that smell fish in my stash and no lobsters at all...
I've found the following...

"O carp." Hmm, there is a colorful japanese carp that called Shusui and also MPM did a japanese Me 163 lookalike with the same name, Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui.
A Sea Horse, actually the german H-34G from Revell. Might be a "See Pferd" then.
A big mammal, the Dornier Do JII Wal from Huma.
Some norwegian flying Penguins from Hasegawa but I guess they won't do.

These are three options I'd have never thought of. But ofcouse, the Dornier Wal is by far the best decision anyone could ever make. What a damn fine aircraft. It's a Porco Rosso pirate plane!

I think the Airfix Supermarine Walrus can be had pretty cheaply too.

Porco Rosso together with Sky Crawlers are my favorite fiction movies with aircrafts and I've forgot about the pirate Wal there.

What I had in mind was one of Amundsen's expeditions to the north pole with two Wals. N24 or N25 with a big norwegian flag on the rudder.

At last I found a dolphin, a perhabs waterliving lizard and a crab in my stash.

The Aero L-29 Delfin, Heinkel He 162 Salamander and de Havilland Spidercrab which is the name of two first Vampire prototypes.

I'll still go for the Wal and I'll put up some photos next week when I'm at home again.

A little progress report. Worked diligently on the airframe interior. Doing some dry fits of cockpit in fuse and finding tail dragging solutions. For that I found that the engine nacelles have tonnes of space forward of the landing gear. Epoxied 20 cents worth of nickels in each nacelle. Should do the trick.

Cheers,
Fred

That was fast. Are the instrument dials in there decals? How'd you achieve that nice of a cockpit on such an old kit???

Eduard happens to make a PE fret for this kit. I still have a lot of goodies to pack in there before I seal it up but it pays to test fit a lot. I already notice that the gun sight will be a close fit so I need to position it with care.

I'm holding out hope that this old bird will come out OK.

Well I got some time in today.

The IP.... I always do the blackwash after I assemble the tub. For some reason I broke with convention and used some Tamiya paint on the IP instead of just Testor's small jar enamels... The mineral spirit suspended blackwash washed away all my red and yellow knobs. AND the painstakingly painted bezels.

So canopy will be in the closed position.....

Home again and I couldn't keep my fingers from my Wal

Still in box and sealed plastic bag...

...and a sprueshot. Thx a lot Huma for the missing prop

Well. it doesn't really matter as I have to find some old wooden props instead.

I found over 20 photos from the Amundsen Polar Expedition on Flickr and that's a good reference to start with...

Eugene, good luck with that black and white scheme, are you going with the decals or masking?

Jan, that's going to be one gorgeous boat. Are the amundsen planes metallic doped? I can't tell for sure in those fotos.

Dry fitting the vert stabilizer, jet pipe cowling and windscreen armour... I can report that to this point;this kit has the best fit I have ever encountered. And historically I built Tamiya about 50 percent of the time.

This kit is stunningly well engineered. I'm beyond pleased. Hopefully it won't make me regret these kind words later on.

Is that airgun shot you're using for ballast?

Good idea.

I have made some progress on my Triplane:

I have done most of the cockpit and am now ready to tackle the paint scheme, however I am a little undecided whether to do a different Richthofen Triplane to 425/17 on this build and do one of his more interesting schemes of his other planes illustrated in Osprey's ACES 40. At least if I screw up the streaked camouflage, I can always airbrush the entire plane RED !

What brand is that tripe, Ian?

... still wading through interior sub assemblies, however, I have nacelles and wings done, engines painted, and am ready to mask the canopies.

Decided to display the cavernous bomb bay so before I can close up the fuse I need to sand and paint a dozen or so 250lb bombs.

Pictures to follow...

Cheers,
Fred

Fred. It's amazing the things that turn up when you clear out the basement. Found two tins of that shot not a minute too soon.

Ian. That's a wee little thing there. Good luck with the camouflage, also good luck if you're thinking of rigging it!

Just did some of the sundries for the fishbed tonight. I really wanted to do alkali missiles but I think they'd be too much of an anachronism. Atolls it is. Otherwise everything is fairly straightforward right now. Fit is still very good indeed.

Right, with holidays and the Black Widow finished, I'll start my first South Asian sensation, a Special Hobby Hawker Tempest II in IAF colours, looking forward to this.

Looking forward to this one

I thought that was a tough one too... Interested to see what you come up with.

Andrew that Tempest II is a knockout. The apex of piston engine aircraft design without a doubt.

Yalym,I think Valkrie is technically a compound wing, not strictly anhedral. BUT, it's close enough for a country boy like me. Either Valkrie or a Starfighter, although I think Valkrie is the more interesting/unusual subject!

Ansel,

Your lot is...

#60 uba es Autentica!Quite simply the best dressed air force in history. In my humble opinion at least. Build something from the venerbale CRAF!
