cool, I can handle that one - It'll almomst certainly be one of the F-4 Phantoms in my stash - or maybe a DC-3 if i don't do that one for the Douglas aircraft campaign. Hmm I also have a Cessna kit that must qualify.

With all respect to our Swiss friend here, I had a taste for a steel biplane, and my research on neutral aircraft is steering me toward an Italeri 1/72 Fiat C.R.42 which includes decals for a Swedish option.
If I went Swiss, I have an old Testors SNJ Texan kit that would only need decals, or an Me-109 or -108 is easy enough to find in my preferred 1/72 scale.
I also considered a Portuguese Hawker Hurricane, using decals from Colorado Decals out of Portugal, but their website looks iffy to me, requiring money order or Paypal.

Thanks, Allen, for the link. Also saw some F-5s and a few trainers. Need to look at Iran's "plane history". I know they got a look of stuff from the West during the time of the Shah. This is really a great idea. It's gotten me thin king outside my self-imposed "box". So, I can do the Iran plan or the contra whirlly thingys. ????? Options- we now have options. Have to go hunting, er, shopping soon- especially for decals if I go with the Iranian option.

Vance, I was astonished when I started sifting over wiki and seeing just how many aircraft entered service before '64. It tracks though, modern warplanes seem like the ultimate example of diminishing returns. For a quadrillion bazillion dollars more, how much better is an F-35 or a Rafale than a Phantom really.
Turner, Iran's had/has a pretty solid lineup, certainly the most interesting inventory in the region. I was just going to call is "Persian Immersion" and have it strictly Iranian AF, but Iran-Contra was too much fun to pass up.

I'm an avid fan of the interwar racing period and I've got a Curtis Racer R3X-2, Gee Bee Racer, and Travel Air Mystery Ship all by Testors to choose from. A lot of power and a lot of color. Engines reving and ready for the flag.

Hi, Richard. Please, call me JT- everyone does. And you're right about the choice of planes for Iran. Everything from a P-47D to a MiG-29. Plus some rather colorful trainers. Now, the real question, of course, is who has the decals? Can anyone help me with who sells Iranian decals, any scale? I keep thinking about a Jug in Iranian livery. Never seen one of those.

Coooool, that's intresting. I just checked my LHS site and did not find anything with skies (actually 2 LHS sites).
Just in case, does chopper with skies (like cobra or huey or gazelle) count?

after doing a little more browsing of my stash, I also see I could do an A-4 Skyhawk, F-5, T-38, Canberra/B-57 (NASA still uses RB-57s), Hawker Hunter, MiG-15UTI, MiG-17, MiG-19, or MiG-21...
...almost too many to choose from!
unfortunately F-86s only served for 48 years (first flown 1947, last one retired 1995!).

Hi, Jessica. You must have been reading my mind- or what's left of it.
I've seen several decal sheets with Iranian roundels on them, but the question is are the roundels the same for '45 as they are now? Also, I vaguely recall in my wanderings someone producing a sheet of Arabic numerals- I think.

Well, it appears Arabic numerals are really hard to find. But now there's another problem. I thought for sure someone kitted a "dorsel spine" Jug. Other than the Trump 1/32 version, I can't find one. Was one ever kitted? Or, failing that, is there a conversion in 1/48? I would like to build the Tamiya kit, but.... Anyway, any help on this would be greatly appreicated. Just call me

The Minicraft and Monogram/Promodeler P-47Ns had the dorsal fin. It doesn't look terribly difficult to add to a -D. A little plastic card, some glue, some putty and Robert's your father's brother.

The Iranians had F-5 Tiger II's and Phantoms too. They had so much before that old dude ruined it all.

Hi, Ben. Yep, in my quest I saw the F-5s. So I thought of the AFV Club F-5s. Checked them out AND the F-5F has, hold on, Iranian markings!!!. Well, called my LHS, talked to the guy there, and they have one in stock. After work I'm heading over there and getting it! Problem solved- I hope. Anyway, thanks to everyone who was helping this poor, old, and demented guy out. Aeroscale folks are the best!

I've been on the hunt for a 'Tri Motor' kit, as I have none in the stash. Guess my choices are JU-52, Fokker F.VII, or the Savoia Marchetti. Any of which is available in a variety of scales. Perhaps even a 'Mistel' could be classed as tri motor.
The one true Tri Motor found that I like, costs $80.00.
Guess I'll have to go shovel more snow to come up with that.
