its actually really easy, i checked out a few tutorials from other people and they all made them straight onto the model which is fine but they don't come off, well not easily.
i covered the model in cling film/sandwich wrap (wrinkles don't matter as they will help when you do the next stage).
cut some kitchen towel to the right size then use a mixture of pva/wood glue mixed with water (50/50) so its nice and runny and wet the kitchen towel while its on the model.
i WOULDN'T brush the wood glue/water mix on as it will tear the kitchen roll, just load a big-ish brush (a scrappy old one is fine) and dab it on and use the brush to carefully make the folds and creases.
WASH YOUR BRUSH OUT WITH WATER !
let the initial mixture dry overnight, i then gave it another coating of just pva/wood glue, full strength, not diluted. if you want to put a couple of coats on that's fine.
once its all totally dry you can lift the tarp. off the model as it doesn't stick to the cling film, then all you need is paint and weathering.
easy !
i can do a tutorial with pictures if you want, its up to you.

there is also a sheet of aluminum that all of this is attached to. Next I did the groundwork using True Earth desert/shore sand colored paste. Don't know what's in it, but it sure looks and works great.
Did some experimenting with some sprinkled on fine sand, looks ok I think...
well it's back to the groundwork, happy modeling everybody 
this figure will be handing over a fuel nozzle to the figure on the wing.
