introduction

With the “Pacific Mustangs” Kagero have started a new product line in the company offer which are decals of the Red Series. Second issue of this series is dedicated to the German Heinkel He 111P-2's used in the units of KG 27. Distinct from other “typical” aftermarket decal sets Kagero offers a 12 pages colour booklet with large drawings of three machines, if possible original photographs of these planes and brief stories about planes service and features of their camouflage.

a look inside

This is the second issue of the Red Series Decals, but this time dedicated only to the 1:72 and 1:32 scales as there is no existing model of this plane in 1:48 scale yet on the market. The publication consists of a booklet depicting the painting options and decal sheet.
Painting and decaling options available for the He 111P-2's are:
  • Heinkel He 111 P-2, W.Nr. 1417, coded „1G FN” of 5./KG 27, Seerappen, East Prussia, September 1939
  • Heinkel He 111 P-2, coded „1G BB” of Stab I./KG 27, flown by Oblt. Paul Hollinde, Gablingen, late autumn-winter 1939/1940.
  • Heinkel He 111 P-2, coded „1G DL” of 3./KG 27, crew: Uffz. Otto Wehmeir (pilot), Uffz. Arthur Voigt (observer), Uffz. Otto Miklitz (flight engineer), Uffz. Manfred Kisker (radio operator), Münster-Handorf, 10th May 1940.

The booklet have 12 pages printed in full color option and is the same for both scales. Each of three machines is presented on two side profiles, look from above and a view of the lower wings surfaces depicting position and size of the balkenkreuzes and planes individual letters. Painting schemes consists of RLM 71, RLM 70 and RLM 65 colours in A-pattern or modified A-pattern. The only difference are the spinner colours which are RLM 23, RLM 25 or RLM 04. Kagero does not suggest any particular producer of hobby paints, you will have to choose from variety of paints available on the market. Each painting option have a caption of suggested references which are both books and websites. Publisher have also provided two large photographs of „1G DL” wreck taken on the railway station in late spring of 1940. The last section of booklet are brief stories of machines presented on previous pages and descriptions of their camouflage features. On the last page of the booklet we find three preview profiles of the planes depicted inside and a short instruction how to best apply the decals.

quality

Kagero Publishing keeps the high standard of the series. Decal sheets are printed by Cartgraf, company setting the world's standards of quality. All numbers and stencils are perfectly sharp and readable, even in 1:72 scale. You can not even see any texture on the artwork of Frederick the Great which is the most complicated decal in this set. Decals themselves are very thin. Carrier film is perfectly transparent and borders the marking as much as it was possible. Painting and decal placing instruction are clear and readable. Each decal has its own number so it will be rather difficult to use the wrong decal. The publication makes the general impression of well thought-out and carefully prepared, without unnecessary haste or shortcuts.
