The Kit

A small clear sleeve with a reseal-able flap make up the packaging to this detail set, inside is a small yellow stiff paper item with the metal transfers on and a stiff piece of card of slightly larger size which works as a backing sheet and as the instructions.
The metal transfers are designed to cover the anti slip area found on the top of the intake on a F-14 Tomcat, these pieces have a very fine textured surface that replicate this area quite nicely. I've included a photo taken with the flash which high lights the texture of this area more than can be seen with a normal photo. Additionally the sheet provides for all the fuselage formation lights and a few reinforcing plates also found on the forward area of F-14s including the two strips found on the glass area of the canopy. In total the anti slip area consists of five parts for each intake top, there are eight formation lights in total and seven reinforcing plates of which two small one’s are stuck onto two of the larger ones. With the canopy strips two spares are supplied which is always a good thing.

The Instructions
These cover how to use the metal transfers and the two ways that can be used to apply them including the use of Cyanoacrylate even though the transfers are self adhesive. On the front is a key to the parts giving them numbers as none are on the transfer sheet. Upon opening out the instruction sheet you find a pictorial guide on the placement of the transfers backed up with written guides and number call outs. The instructions do advice the user to check your references as the anti-skid area and some of the stiffeners may not be applicable to the aircraft / unit or time frame you’re modelling.

In Conclusion
A simple and useful addition to your F-14 Tomcat that should add that little extra detail not seen on most finished kits.

Ok, firstly I build what ever takes my fancy however I mainly build 1/350 WWII era ships mainly cruisers and any aircraft. However my favourite aircraft being the mighty Beaufighter, Sepecat Jaguar, Hawker Hunter, Fw-190 and the Su-27 family. I also like wheeled armour like the Stryker and Centauro ...
