Albatros D.V Weekend Edition

History
The D.V was the final development of the Albatros D.I family and the last Albatros fighter to see operational service. Approximately 900 D.V and 1,600 D.Va aircraft were built by early 1918. The D.Va continued in operational service until the end of the war.

The Kit
The kit allows one marking option of Richard Flashar's Albatros D.V while he was with Jasta 5 in 1917. The is one sprue of parts, one decal sheet and an instruction booklet

Construction
The kit goes together very well and the fact that it is a “Weekend Edition” helps in the construction. I started with the cockpit and fuselage interior. I used Testors 1166 "Flat Brown". One coat with the brush leaving streaks, then a wash along the interior detail with thinned black artist oil. I continued by painting the engine, and mating the fuselage sides.

Next the fuselage was painted light grey, green and red and the lower wing was glued in place. I then painted the lower wings Mister kit “Albatros Blue” and the top wings Tamiya Olive Green and Polly Scale “German Mauve” and drilled the holes for the rigging. I glued the top wing on after adding the struts and used monofilament for the rigging lines. One note, I had to consult other references for the rigging diagram as the Eduard instructions had an incomplete rigging diagram. Finally I cut the excess rigging line, cleaned up the exit holes by filling, sanding and painting and added all of the decals.

Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here - on AeroScale.
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent fit of all of the parts with very good detail.
Lows: Incomplete rigging instructions - No control horns on the tail for rigging lines.
Verdict: This was a fun kit to build, simplified but with plenty of detail.
