Introduction

The Focke-Wulf 190A joined the Luftwaffe in the Fall of 1941 over France, quickly showing its superiority. The only really draw back to this radial engine fighter was the poor turn radius performance. A new set of decals from Exito Decals provides marking for the FW 190A-3, -4, and -5.

Review

Exito Decals from Poland has another great looking release with markings for the FW 190A, with two examples over France and one over Russia. The set comes delivered in a clear plastic protective sleeve with sturdy card stock in an 8.5 inch by 11-inch format. Inside the package is the sheet of decals and three sheets for the painting and markings, all printed in great looking color.

The decal sheet contains marking for three aircraft, including Swastikas for outside of Europe. The art work of the decals is great looking, with excellent color and all printed in register. As for the quality of the decals, they are printed by Cartograf, so should be no question there.

Marking are included for:
  • Focke-Wulf 190A-3, flown by Obit. Detiev Rohwer, Kapitan of 6./JG 1, late spring 1942
  • Focke-Wulf 190A-4, coded SK OU, France 1943
  • Focke-Wulf 190A-5, coded “Yellow 5”, flown by Fw. Karl “Charly” Willus, 3./JG 26, Soviet Union, April 1943

The artwork for the painting and marking guides is impressive. Printed on glossy paper in full color and two sited. The one side showing the sides of the aircraft are almost, if not completely, frame worthy with great looking artwork. The flip side contains the top and bottom views with decal placement information. Also included is a black and white reference image. Paint colors are referenced for both Mr. Hobby and AK Interactive.

Note: while the reviewed items was 1/48 scale, the decals are also available in 1/72 scale as well.

Summary

As with the first set of decals from Exito Decals, I continue to be impressed by the decal art work and delivery, to include the full page painting and marking guides. A look at the decals alone should be enough to inspire a build of a Fw 190, highly recommended.
