Introduction

PlusModel has released a 1/48th scale ladder for an F4 Phantom fighter. I know this will not be to everyone’s taste, but I like to add simple items that give a sense of scale to a subject.

Contents

The product is supplied in a simple card end opening carton. In side of this is a single plastic sprue that contains all of the needed parts for the ladder, this is packed inside a plastic bag.

Review

This is a very basic model product as can be seen from the sprue shots and subsequent build pictures. The parts are well moulded with no obvious faults observed. Detail is minimal with it being made of metal poles and slats, but PlusModel does appear to have given this some consideration as to the approach.

When moving onto the build you quickly realise that PlusModel has provided a product that has not relation to the instructions provided on the pack of the packaging, and I have to say I am very pleased about this. “WHAT” I hear you say; well the instructions indicate that each and every wrung of the ladder has to be secured in place, the way the product has been supplied is so much more user friendly, especially as there are no positive connection points. Even though the instructions are completely wrong they are a sufficient guide to the construction of the parts that are included.

Once the parts are free of the sprue and cleaned up, we have the task of putting them together. As stated earlier that task is a pain as there are no real connection points for any of the parts, but there are exceptions in this offering, the two hooks that latch onto the cockpit of the aircraft are separate parts (Not according to the instruction) and these secure well to the main spars of the ladder, the top step adds to the security of this part. So again inaccurate instructions provide acceptable detail to assemble a product that is easier to use than if assembled as indicated in the instructions.

Conclusion

This product has been made much easier to assemble than is first indicated by the instructions, that said PlusModel do need to update those instructions. The new method of construction is easier to reach the finish, but the addition of some positive connection points would be a big plus in my opinion. With that said it is a product that adds a nice touch to a model.
SUMMARY
Highs: I like to see products like these offered and I would like to find a pilot with a foot on a wrung, perhaps a future combined release.
Lows: The instructions are nothing like the product, but in this case that is a good thing.
Verdict: If you want to display a 1/48th scale Phantom with the canopy open this is a nice detailed addition.
