Introduction
As I have recently reviewed Revell of Germany’s 1/32nd scale Ju88A-4 for Aeroscale I was asked if I would like to take a look at two after-market decal sets from Eagle Editions Ltd, I jumped at the chance as I have been purchasing other aftermarket sets for this big old girl. Eagle Editions Ltd is not a company I have utilised in the past having been mostly engaged with armour models for the last 20 years or so and so it will be interesting to take a look at the quality of these products.

Contents
The two products I am taking a look at here are sets No 153 and No 154. Each set consists of an instruction booklet and two decal sheets. The products are packaged in a good quality Ziploc plastic bag. The sets were sent to me in a padded envelope with a cardboard stiffener, which ensured that the two products reached me in perfect condition. There are 3 finishing options in each pack.

Review
These two decal sets are not aimed at any specific model or manufacturer, however the most obvious and likely candidate is the Revell of Germany offering the Ju 88-A4 in 1/32nd scale; a link to a review of this specific model can be found at the end of this review. These two decal sets have three finishing options in each set for primarily the early Ju 88-A4, there is however one for the later Ju 88-A4, it is the later A4 that the Revell of Germany kit represents. The difference between the early and late Ju 88-A4 is at the top of the rudder, early A4’s had a rudder that is straight along its length where it joins the tail upright, late A4’s have a step at the top. The instructions do make mention of this issue and make suggestions as to how you can tackle the problem, Eagle Editions Ltd make mention of aftermarket options and scratch work remedies.

The decals themselves are supplied on two sheets for each set, the decals are very thin and have great colour with very little carrier film present, and this aspect will help reduce the risk of silvering occurring. I like the fact that the aircraft covered are varied in terms of finish and giving the modeller a good number of options. The aircraft covered in these two sets are;
EC#153
  • Ju 88 A-4 W.Nr. Unknown 9K FR III/KG 51 (Late)
  • Ju 88 A-4 W.Nr. 140711 4D AC II/KG 30 (Early)
  • Ju 88 A-4 W.Nr. Unknown F1 BR 7/KG 76 (Early)

EC#154
  • Ju 88 A-4 W.Nr. Unknown B3 IN 5/KG 54 (Early)
  • Ju 88 A-4 W.Nr. Unknown L1 MH 1/LG 1 (Early)
  • Ju 88 A-4 W.Nr. Unknown 9K QH 1/KG 51 (Early)

Conclusion
As the owner of a Revell of Germany Ju 88 A-4 in 1/32nd scale, which has the late rudder pattern I would have liked to see Eagle Editions Ltd offer these two sets as a late and an early offering, this would have provided the modeller the option of tackling some scratch work on the tail or not, you could also of course overlook the rudder issue and use finish you prefer. The Revell of Germany offering is the only 1/32nd scale model of the Ju 88 A-4 that is readily available, I believe, and they also have an A-1 version which has the earlier tail design for reference. These decals are a quality product which should provide a good finish that can only be beaten by painting the markings on the model. The thinness of the decals and their lack of carrier film matched with good colour make these worthy of consideration. One other thing that I am pleased to see included is three sets of swastikas in each set in these days of them not being included in mainstream releases.

Hmm, when did Eagle Editions start providing the swastikas in two pieces?

Excellent review. Emeritus, I suspect Eagle is doing that to allow sale of these decals in Germany, but that's just speculation.
