Alley Cat have released two conversions sets for the popular Airfix 1/48 Sea Vixen FAW 2. The conversion set will enable the FAW 1 to be be built as well as a set for the early FAW 2 with the flat navigators cockpit section. Alley Cat are also releasing a canopy and mask set for the FAW 2.

Sea Vixen FAW 2 Early Style Navigator Cockpit Set .
This set comprises three clear resin canopies, for the front windscreen, the sliding canopy and the new navigators hatch canopy. These parts are all cast as one piece so no tricky assembly required and masks made by Montex are provided. A new top forward fuselage section is supplied without the bulge over the navigators cockpit as are two new seats.
To install the new forward fuselage only one cut is required, the kit seats required replacing especially the navigators seat as this required shortening to enable fitment under the new hatch door.
There are a few additional parts supplied that you can use depending on the aircraft being made, those are a new nose wheel door with the early light configuration, and a non framed side window for the navigators hatch. In the picture you will see two navigator hatch doors, only the clear version is supplied the pained version is only to show the interior detail supplied. Also supplied is a new panel that has the semi-circular vent cast into it this is an added part that may be used to improve upon the kit accuracy.
A small decal sheet is supplied to cover some of the variations required from the kit decals. Decals for the main markings can be sourced either from the kit and or from some of the aftermarket decals already in the market place. The early navigator hatch style was applicable to many FAW 2 aircraft.

Sea Vixen FAW 1 Conversion Set.
This set contains new booms and new top and bottom fuselage sections that only require two straight cuts and some careful trimming to fit the new replacement booms. Also included are three clear resin canopies, for the front windscreen, the sliding canopy and the new navigators hatch canopy. These parts are all cast as one piece so no tricky assembly required and masks made by Montex are provided.
New seats are supplied mainly to allow the navigators seat to fit as this requires shortening to enable fitment under the new hatch door.
Other parts also included are a new nose wheel door with the early light configuration, and a non framed side window for the navigators hatch. Also the FAW 1 aircraft had the earlier style main gear door covers, that had bulged sections to them, so a pair of new doors are included. Sea Vixen FAW 2 Canopy and Mask Set.
This set comprises three clear resin canopies, for the front windscreen, the sliding canopy and the navigators hatch canopy. These are direct replacement parts for the kit parts and only the long strake that extends down the fuselage from the screen rain duct needs to be cut and added to the new cast windscreen.
A full mask set made by Montex is also supplied, inner and outer masks are provided, for all three as is an outside mask for the small side window at the navigators station.
