It's always great to see a new aircraft modelling magazine, especially as there aren't that many dedicated publications available in the UK these days. So this press release from Traplet Publications is especially exciting:

"Traplet Publications set to launch new aviation magazine – Model Aviation World

Traplet Publications are in the process of creating a brand new title called “Model Aviation World” that will expand on the aircraft content from Military in Scale magazine, to produce a fresh, all aircraft magazine, that will cover all aspects of aircraft modelling, both civilian and military.

The first issue of Model Aviation World will be an expanded 84-page issue, and will feature a mountain of stunning builds and reference features – including Haris Ali's gorgeous Bristol Fighter on the cover which gives a flavour of the content. All subsequent issues will be 68 pages (a size that has worked so well for Military In Scale over the last fifteen years or so). It will go on sale on the 5th of November in all good newsagents and hobby shops for £3.95/US$9.99. There will be a chance to meet the team behind the magazine at the official launch at the IPMS UK Nationals in Telford on 7th - 8th November 2009.

From the December issue, on sale 12 November 2009, Military in Scale will become a dedicated military title (covering armour, figures and dioramas) and the aircraft content will transfer over to the new magazine, expand upon it and in the process create a more rounded and interesting publication. The new magazine will be edited and put together each month by Spencer Pollard and Alan Firbank.

In terms of content, Model Aviation World will feature a wide variety of models and subjects from WWI to Modern Jets, Helicopters to Civilian Airliners - it will not be a military-only title. These features will cover some very interesting kits both new and classic (the latter allowing the chance to revisit many forgotten kits that still look great even today...), injection moulded, resin and vac-formed, as well as conversions and scratchbuilt subjects and will be formatted to follow closely the standards of the aircraft models with which many readers of Military In Scale will already be familiar.
