There was quite a bit of discussion in the forums recently about where to get dry transfers for use on aircraft models. I don't think we were able to narrow down where to get them but now HobbyDecal appears on the scene.
HobbyDecal appears to be relatively new on the model product scene but their products look promising. They currently have 28 dry transfer sets available for WWII subjects and 3 sets available for modern aircraft subjects (the A-10 in 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 scale). The WWII subjects cover all the popular aircraft. All of the sheets available on their website are stencil sheets, three of which can be viewed to the right (1/32 Bf-109, 1/48 A-10 and 1/48 P-51 Stencil sheets from top to bottom).

The HobbyDecal website is easy to navigate and has some outstanding features. As with any online ordering website, you must register in order to place an order and this opens up my favorite feature-the Wish List. The Wish List is a depository for saving decal sheets you wish to have which makes it easier when returning to order them. It's also a great link to give the wife (or significant other) when you want a surprise gift because they can order the decal straight from your wish list. There's also a great Tips section that describes the eight-step process to apply the dry transfer decals. Another fine feature is downloadable installation manuals for the decal sheets. HobbyDecal doesn't include printed instructions with their decal sheets so downloading the installation manual will be required. The manuals are essentially pictures of the aircraft with locations where the decals are to be applied. I downloaded one manual and the quality is outstanding.

Check-out is very straightforward and the shopping cart is easy to navigate as well as to add or delete items. Air Parcel shipping to the U.S. is $2.00 and Express Mail Service and Registered Mail Service are available.

A Custom Made Order link is visible on the left menu but is inactive. It could be a future expansion possibility for the company.

There is also a Gallery containing pictures of models using HobbyDecal Dry Transfers.

In the Coming Soon section of the website, the following decals are listed in either the drawing or researching stage:

  • Ju-88 Stencils ver 1.0 1/48

  • Ju-87 Stencils ver 1.0 1/24, 1/32, 1/48

  • A6M Zero Stencils ver 1.0 1/24, 1/32, 1/48
