Master has released a couple of sets of Browning M2 .5 calibre machine gun barrel sets as fitted to the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress in 1/48 and 1/72 scales
These gun barrels are made from turned brass and include flash hiders.

These barrels are very simple to use in your model, and makes it extremely realistic. Simply cut off the original plastic barrel and drill a hole in the remaining plastic parts and insert the metal barrel using Cyanoacrylate adhesives.

AM-48-138 - Browning M2 aircraft .50 caliber barrels with flash hiders – 1/48
AM-72-125 - Browning M2 aircraft .50 caliber barrels with flash hiders – 1/72
