I've been slowly as time permits working on the Academy F-4 snap-tite kit that I got from Jim as time permits. While the detail is pretty good, the parts all suffer from needing to be on the beefier side. The landing gear really shows this issue. What's more rather then the traditional small slots or holes for the gear to be glued in, they're much larger raised cup type receptacle. The bottom line is that a snap-tite kit will have these issues, and just can't compare to what a traditional plastic model kit. Joel

Hi Steffen I'm not sure why your post was aimed at me, because I've never suggested the kit was gimmicky. However, Brett's latest review does underline my comment that he could have dry-assembled the kit in the first place - that's kind of the point when reviewing a snap-together kit. All the best Rowan

Hi Rowan, actually my comment is not aimed at you but a response to your pretty harsh critique on the first review by BG that I linked here. I understand now that you do not want to have foreign links on your website, this is a business and the other site is as well. I also know that you do your reviews most times with test fitting and checking things, so your preferences are clear and welcome. What I wanted to point out was that the Meng kit is no 20 parts toylike stick-together-break-apart-kit. Easy assembly does not mean easy disassembly and with 100+ parts the Mustang is not simple. SO testfitting things might lead to things difficult to disassemble (like the Tamiya "click" wings). Nothing else, nothing personal against you or the site or anything. We had this in the past and I could keep clear with controversial posts from company ads for a while .. I will try again. This product was different because I first thought it would be kind of a toy (like some others) but it turned out it is not seeing BGs reviews. So I thought this would be worthwhile information for kitmaker readers despite coming from a different website. take care Steffen

I have this kit, and I think it is the greatest 1/48th WWII aicraft kit to come on the market since the Monogram B-17G of 1975, it's that brilliant... Since then, among prop types, only the Tamiya F4U and Ki-46, the Hasegawa Typhoon and J2M, the Modelsvit Yak-9DD, the Eduard Spitfire IX, and finally the Zvezda Me-109F/G and Pe-2 are even remotely in the same ballpark... The way it allows trouble-free metal finishes is a long overdue step forward in modelling... The old Tamiya kit is just ghastly in comparison, and the new Airfix imitated its too wide windshield, so the Meng is it, definitely for our medium if not long term future... Gaston
