Squelching rumors that have been circulating for months, Accurate Miniatures has unleashed their new website. The new website features models offered by Accurate Miniatures, a Modeler's Gallery, Rumor Control and a On Line Build section which focuses on the building of some of their kits-step by step.

I don't think it would be fair without opening with a quote direct from Accurate Miniatures.

"We understand that there have been rumors, accusations, name-calling and a variety of other charges surrounding the rise, fall, and subsequent resurrection of Accurate Miniatures. As a matter of policy we will not use this forum to add to the debate, nor will we address these issues further in any public forum. We choose to rise above all of that and do what we do best: models.

A new management team has been assembled to build on the success of the past while, at the same time, learn a few lessons from past mistakes. There are some new faces, and some familliar faces are still around.

One thing that has not changed is our commitment to excellence. Our goal is to produce the very best models available, out of the box."

The On-Line Catalog section will take you through each of the kits currently produced by Accurate Miniatures which include the Douglas SBD-3 and SBD-5 Dauntless, Grumman F3F-1 and -2 and the North American B-25B, C/D and G.

The On-Line Build area is a great addition to the site and must be seen to appreciate. Accurate Miniatures has taken the time to document and photograph the build of five of their kits from opening the box and sub-assembly construction to painting an finishing. The build articles are stuffed full of helpful tips and humor (like "How’s this statement for provoking raging controversy in the chat rooms?"). Well done.

Now for some updates from Accurate Miniatures:

  • A 1/48 SB2U Vindicator is in the works with molds approximately 80% complete. A release date in the range of third quarter 2003 to late first quarter 2004 is being contemplated.

  • 1/48 P-40E drawings exist.

  • Test shots for a 1/72 IL-2m3 Sturmovik are near completion. Some fine tuning will be needed but they are not promising a release date.

  • B-25G's should be in the stores by summer.

  • There will be more cars.

By some of the discussion I've seen in in the forums, it looks like everyone is delighted to hear that Accurate Miniatures is officially back and that your all looking forward to more of their fine products. While I have never built one of their kits, I'll have to give one a whirl based on all the great things I've heard.
