Airfix have won many new fans with their recent new-tool quarterscale Spitfire and Hurricane, but their announcement spotted by Luciano Satornetti of the first ever mainstream kit of a Defiant in this scale is possibly even more exciting.
News of the new 1/48th scale Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant will be of great interest to many modellers and hopefully the images above illustrate just how impressive this new model will be. Sitting perfectly with the new 1/48th scale Spitfire Mk.I, Hurricane Mk.I and 1/48th scale Ground Crew Set, the Defiant will definitely be on the wants list of many and may even tempt some lapsed modellers back into the hobby.

The kit will include decal options to finish the model as one of two Defiant day fighters:

1) Boulton Paul Defiant Mk.I
L7026 PS-V, P/O PL Kenner and P/O CE Johnson, RAF No.264 Squadron, Kirton-in-Lindsey, August 1940 Battle of Britain

2) Boulton Paul Defiant Mk.I
L1572 KO-I, RAF No.2 Squadron, Hatfield, South Yorkshire, September 1940 Army co-operation trials

This fantastic new model is due to be released in February 2016 and is available to pre-order now.

Hi again I have to say, if we're talking 1:24, I'd like to see Airfix go back to the Gloster Gladiator that they shelved in the '70s. All the best Rowan

I didn't know that they were planning a Gladiator in 1/24, now that would be a good idea but a B P Defiant would also be very cool I'm now not sure which one I would prefer?

Hi Mal You should read Arthur Wards' book on Airfix - some of the stuff that never made it will make you want to weep! Of course, there's the original attempt at a big Mossie, but can you believe that a 1:24 Ju 88 was pitched in 1975!? All the best Rowan

A 1/24th Ju-88, what are you kidding!

Great news! I might to have to break my self imposed ban on new kits for this one. Thanks for the update

Yesterday, at the Culdrose air day, I bought the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire MkI and Hurricane MkI, from T7 Models, so that I could have the set when the Defiant is released

I am gathering information on the Defiant camouflage; I have it done for the Spitfire and Hurricane, so it seems necessary now I'm also doing it so that I am prepared for when Airfix release the 1/24 scale version

I'm building a 1/24 mossie for someone else at the moment, even the box is a pain to keep moving around. I have enough trouble keeping 1/48 aircraft from getting damaged! ..... but I would def. buy a 1/24 gladiator paul
