Meng have announced their second aircraft kit - a new-tool 1:72 kit of the radical Japanese interceptor, the Manshῡ Ki-98.
Designed by Manshῡkoku Hikōki Seiso K.K. (the Manchurian Aeroplane Manufacturing Company Ltd.), the twin-boom pusher Ki-98 was destined never to fly. Subjected to constant delays, construction of the fuselage, wings and tail boom assemblies had finally been completed in August 1945 - just as the Soviet Union invaded Manchuria. Unable to stem the tide of Soviet forces, the Japanese ordered all work to stop and the unfinished aircraft was destroyed, along with all the jigs, mock-ups and most documentation.

Had it flown, the Ki-98 was predicted to have a maximum speed of over 450mph with an armament of 1 x 37mm and 2 x 20mm cannons.

We'll bring you more details of Meng's kit #DS-002 as soon as we receive them.

I must admit I'd never heard of this aircraft until now, and I can't help but notice the similarity with the SAAB J-21. It would make a great side-by-side display. I might just have to investigate further, thanks for posting this news Rowan. Cheers, D
