Messerschmitt 334 (Lippisch)

by: Peter Allen [ FLITZER ]

The Me 334 was originally intended to be turbojet powered, but due to the early unavailability of jet engines, Dr. Lippisch modified this aircraft to accept a Daimler Benz DB 605 12-cylinder piston engine. The wings were mounted mid-fuselage and were swept back at a 23.4 degree angle. The main landing gear retracted inwards and the front gear retracted to the rear. Intended armament was to be two MG131 13mm machine guns. Further development was abandoned when Lippisch designed the P.20.

A&V Models are a small Czech outfit who produce good quality resin kits comparable to most in this sector, specialising in lesser known and experimental aircraft. The range includes a good selection of Russian and Japanese aircraft

THE KIT
Type: Resin.
Resin Parts: 20
Clear Parts: 1 Vac Canopy
Etched Parts:1 fret of 15 parts
Metal Parts:5

The usual light buff resin parts look good with nice detail and scribing. One tiny wing root corner was found to be chipped and one of the propeller blades was snapped. Other than that, all looked OK. The smaller parts came in a protective flash sheet of resin to keep them together in packing, so they need careful removal and clean-up. Larger parts also need a little clean up of flash and edges smoothing. Again, as is usual for resin kits, the wings are butt-joined to the fuselage, so they may need reinforcing with brass rod.

CLEAR PARTS
One vac canopy.

ETCHED PARTS
One small fret is provided containing antenna, seat belts, pedals etc. The quality is up to the average standard for resin kits.

METAL PARTS
The metal parts also would benefit from a light clean up. The metal parts provided consist of seat, joystick and all 3 undercarriage legs.

DECALS
Average, but including swastikas.

VALUE
Not a bad kit overall and although not cheap it does represent good value for a kit of this type..

CONCLUSIONS
A kit for the more experienced but with care, not too difficult for those wishing to try a mixed-media resin model for the first time.
